I first heard the song "Love Never Dies" on PBS in the Andrew Lloyd Webber 50th birthday concert at Royal Albert Hall. Back then the song was called "The Heart Is Slow To Learn" and was sung by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
I think the song was horrible back then, and it is still horrible today! The melody is boring and it oozes with melodrama. Not that the original Phantom didn't ooze melodrama, but at least the melodies were somewhat memorable.
Knowing how much I disliked this song, I was skeptical about the new show.
However, the song "Till I Hear You Sing" is amazing! Great tenor song for the Phantom! Not quite as good as "Music of the Night" but certainly comes a close second.
It will be interesting to watch the future of "Love Never Dies" unfold during the upcoming year.
