I would offer him 4, in recognition of the fact that I have the power to make the offer but the understanding that he has the power of rejection.
By offering 4, I feel I'd be showing him I have gone as far as possible but without making us equal. He would then 'know his place'.
And as a present, I'd tell him he could try the dare on 13horror.com - he'd LOVE that!

Thinking about it - offer the stanger £1 to accept or refuse and get nothing. The stranger may feel hard done by that you kept more than him but at the end of the day if he accepts he is better off than if he refuses - we are now assessing spite vs greed ;)

Assuming the stranger has to be told the whole deal, offering equal shares would seem to have the best chance of a successful outcome.

I will keep all the 10 coins and in this case he(stranger) can do nothing and he has to accept..
