I have had the honor of meeting Sonny and the members of his vocal group, "The Southern Gentlemen". (The bass player you mentioned is Milo Liggett, who is still very close to Sonny today.) Together, they had a string of #1 hits that dominated the country charts for a decade, and created a sound people still love today. They are the best!!!

Sonny James was a hell of an entertainer. Saw him in concert in Fargo, ND. He soloed on acoustic guitar and fiddle. Helluva picker. His bass player had a really freaky electric bass.
