I picked up a book by a major Christian writer (for a quarter, at a garage sale).

I've tried to read books by this award-winner who has written around forty books so far and simply cannot 'connect' with the characters. So I never finish the books.
This surprises me because I'm an avid reader and average four or five books a week.
I must at least really, really like the character to get caught up in the story. Maybe they aren't charismatic, but they surely must be sympathetic, interesting and likeable.
