Do you think the cigar bars on the Destiny, Conquest and Splendor class ships should be totally non smoking?

The anti-smokers (not the same as 'non-smokers') are ahead in the poll 51% to 49% but as of this posting 100% of the people taking the time to post a comment are supportive of providing an area for cigar lovers. Not sure what that means exactly. Just thought it was interesting. So c'mon Carnival, why is this an issue? Give us a dark, comfy corner with a big ashtray, some Sinatra, a waiter and a vent to enjoy a fine cigar....and do it by tomorrow when my cruise leaves.

Sounds like a really, really stupid question to me. What sort of lunatic has a non smoking cigar bar?

If cruise lines want to continue to alienate anyone who smokes or who cruises with a smoker, they should just carry on playing fast and loose with their smoking policies.

In the meantime, smokers should speak up for thmselves and not allow themselves to be bullied.

The dream looks like a cool ship. I won't be sailing on it because I spend most of my time in the casino. It has a very small area to smoke in and you have to be at a machine to smoke. So if you are waiting for a machine and need to go outside to smoke you might miss out. I won't waste my vacation dollars for that. A cigar bar is for smoking cigars. Perhaps Carnival should hire ship designers who are up on current trends. That way they won't put smoking areas in locations where non smokers have to visit.

I've got to say, liberals really suck. I mean I reallly hate them. Winston Churchill said it best.....“If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain.”

Even though I don't smoke cigars, it definitely would be a horrible idea to eliminate the cigar bar just because of complaints from anti-smokers. If there is some underutilization of the cigar bar, they should consider either better promoting it, or moving it to another part of the ship to better meet demand from cigar smokers.

I thought this poll and the comments I've seen were interesting enough, I wrote my own post about this on my libertarian blog, IL Libertarian Dude. Enjoy:

Leave smokers alone! Cigar Bars are for cigars> SaltyDawg is right, most non-smokers don't have a dog in this fight, only people who want to control others usually have an issue. Every smoker I know tries not to bother other people.

I think that the cruise lines are becoming much to sensitive to the non-smoking zealots who are constantly complaining about smoke. It has been my experience in over 45 cruises on various lines, including 10 on Carnival, that most non-smokers are just that. NON SMOKERS, nothing more. They have chosen either to never start smoking or have quit smoking. Unless someone is blowing smoke in their face, or smoking in a no smoking area, they do not complain because it does not bother them. The zealots ,on the otherhand, seem to be on a mission to stop the smokers at all costs.

I can live with existing policies on the Carnival Corp ships (their various lines) and do not think that Carnival should take any further restrictions to implementation. RC & Celebrity have taken the issue to the point where I will no longer sail with them due to their overlly restrictive policies. Too bad, I used to enjoy both lines as a change of pace. If all the lines become too restrictive, I will take my vacation dollars elsewhere.

I agree the cigar bar is underutilized. If the Internet Cafe is moved, then it's location would make a good cigar bar and make the bar formerly known as a cigar bar non-smoking. Problem solved!

All of the cigar bars I have been in on the Conquest class of ship draw very few people, we spend nearly every night in the bar enjoying a cigar after dinner. Because of the large size of the room, it seems a wasted space. But is very nice to have to your own. Since the bar is there, it would be much easier to move the cyber cafe to a room that is not used very much either, like the meeting room more forward of the cigar bar in the hall, or up one deck to the bar that is on the port side aft (across from the piano bar), those rooms NEVER have anyone in them, so why not utilize them for the internet?

    It's a CIGAR bar!

I am a non-smoker but certainly think cigar smokers should have the right to smoke in a CIGAR BAR. Poor design to put the computers beyond the cigar bar but the smokers shouldn't have to suffer because the beards failed to think.

IT'S A CIGAR BAR!! If a cigar should be smoked ANYWHERE it should be there!

  • Mr Derek - 14 years ago

It would be easier to move the computers than to change the cigar bar. A dark panneled room with comfortable chairs and bar service would be a great place to have a cigar. I don't smoke, but that's what I would want if I did.
    Cheers!
    Mr Derek
