I like this survey. Though That's Alright Mama, Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee, Rock The Joint Boogie, Good Rockin' Tonight and Rock This Joint are all great songs they are varients of the Blues and Jazz dominant in the Delta area. It was not until The Fat Man that the song had a second rhythm in the music. It is that second rhythm or backbeat that made Rock & Roll the different music style that it became. After The Fat Man almost all the songs of the early 50s that we consider Rock & Roll had that backbeat in the music. The varients of Rock & Roll had the backbeat as well though with Rockabilly it was more pronounced while with DooWop it was more subtle. To my mind The Fat Man by Fats Domino is the first Rock & Roll song. Antioine Domino and Dave Bartholomew wrote a classic in The Fat Man.
