Should the U.S. follow Europe's lead and prioritize transportation alternatives over the private automobile?

Europe has the right idea. Making it inconvenient to drive and prioritizing alternative modes of transport will make our cities more livable.

Can we compromise? We should have more transportation alternatives, but not at the expense of cars.

In the U.S. people prefer cars. Making driving harder goes against the will of the people.
