It's sci-fi, just sit back and enjoy it and suspend reality for a little while. Enjoy the dino's and the storyline and stop overthinking everything.

TerraNova seemed to lack logic. The world is dying so into the past man goes. No problem there. However, if the planet is dying then it is likely resources are scarce. From the scenes of present earth things are hard and people live on the margin. So when you get to the past you see massive amounts of modern materials and decorations. This defies logic. Such a project would demand maximum use of local materials which are wood, stone, and possible brick and ceramic. However, the past seems to have an abundance of high tech. You see no saw mills, hand tools, etc. but you seem bleeding edge tech. Another example of logic failing is trading modern items for a box of nickel iron. It is highly unlikely that one would place a colony in the past without considering key mineral resources. Since this story starts in early 2200’s it would be very unlikely that information of key mineral resources did not exist. One could go on and on about the lack of logic. So what one is left with is dino’s , personal stories and conflict between two parties.
