If the U.S. had a role in the targeted killing of U.S. citizen and Al Qaeda leader Anwar al Awlaki, would you approve of it?

    Elements within our government can now, if they so desire, "inform" us that anyone they don't like, or disapprove of, whose opinions are out of line with the powers-that-be, or is a thorn in the side of authority, is a "terrorist", and thus can be terminated, by that same authority, at a time of their choosing. No evidence or proof is required, no verifiable chain of custody is required, and no trial is offered.

    How many people have been murdered by executive order without a trial to determine their guilt or innocence? We don't know... we have no idea. The crew responsible are secretive beyond all bounds of paranoia, and the corporate "weasel" media is complicit in its Goebbels like appeasement.

    Would you ever trust an executive branch that was so psychotic that such extreme methods were now the norm? BushCorp dumped Habeas Corpus, and now ObamaCorp has dumped the requirement for a trial, even a kangaroo military tribunal.

    Does this sound like America? No. Does it sound like the old USSR, or Nazi Germany, or Myanmar, or Iran on steroids? Undoubtedly yes... on an increasing number of counts. How did we fall so far, in such a short time?

    @gul....

    No one is saying the soldiers did everything right.. they are flawed humans just like the rest of us. Just as you do not want all people of middle eastern decent to be seen as terrorists, I do not want to be lumped in with bad soldiers or political figures.
    But this man was a traitor and a terrorist.. ANY country would have killed him for his crimes if he were their citizen. Treason is not taken lightly anywhere I know of

    He was a traitor and a terrorist.. Had he still been in the USA he would have been hunted down, arrested and sentenced to death as that is still an option for treason punishment

    Why are we so politically correct when it comes to dealing with monsters like An Awlaki?
    I do not remember any terrorist organization asking themselves if killing near 3,000 innocent people on 9-11-01 was "correct" or "legal"
    Well done Obama! keep protecting us from radicals who have don't appreciate life or peace.

    Like what is the US Government supposed to do to perform its' duty to protect the lives of its' citizens? Sit around while these terrorists send bomber after bomber over to the USA? Wait until they blow up another airliner, then invade wherever we think they might be, at a cost of trillions of dollars, potentially killing thousands, in an attempt to capture the terrorists. Nope, blow them up as cheaply and efficiently as possible. They declared war on us. They chose to be illegal combatants, not part of a legal military. I think it was Sherman who said, while plundering part of his own country to establish the rule of law, 'war is hell.'
    And every person has the right of self-defence. It would be a bit difficult for us to go to Somalia to try to make a citizens' arrest in an effort to defend ourselves from those who have vowed in public to kill us.
