If the Kindle Touch can be bought in a store a week before pre-orders get it, how will you feel about it?

Do those of you who pre-ordered the Fire also pre-order books, movies and music? If so, do you get your items on or before the release day when they're available in stores? If not, then why should the Fire be any different? I never thought that pre-ordering gave me a place in line, only that it guaranteed that I got one. I chose free shipping for my Fire and don't expect it until the following week and since I have no need to be "FIRST", that's fine.

I understand the frustration with the Touch release dates, that doesn't make sense. I would have thought that Amazon would have just moved everyone's ship date up a week.

I don't care for myself but can see why others would. As to amazon catering to the stores over their "loyal customers" I'm tempted to say "Oh boo hoo, get over it". I assume amz has a good business reason for what they are doing. If their loyal customers are loyal enough it won't hurt them much.
Bufo , if you get the fire on the 15th will you have time to cancel your order. I doubt it. Since you are writin a book about it I can see why a day makes a difference.

I feel pretty frustrated, too. Unless Amazon has all one- and two-day shipping orders for Fire delivered by Tuesday, they will have dropped the ball severely. Don't even get me started on the Touch. Until I saw this post, I couldn't believe that Amazon could have actually shipped to retailers more than a week before it was going to start shipping to its own loyal following, those who preordered up to six weeks in advance. Amazon, the great Internet retailer, now bows to Target, Walmart, and Staples before it delivers to its own customers? I ordered the Fire on September 28, with Prime two-day shipping, and regardless of the fact that I have no interest in driving to a store on Tuesday and competing with other shoppers, I am feeling pretty let down that Amazon values its own customers less than it does the retail establishments who will be rewarding their own customers with instant gratification on Tuesday.

I'm not so upset about the Fire being in stores on the 15th. I ordered with Prime shipping so I'll have it the 17th, not a huge difference. However, the fact that I won't get my 2 Touches until the 23rd and the stores have them on the 15th does highly irritate me! At the very least they should ship the Touches on the 15th.
