The Garri belongs to Oromo and they live along the western shore of Gannale river. They speak Boran language (Which is another dialect of Oromo), however they don't like the Borana because the Borana follow traditionally Waaqa (God) unlike Garri, that follow muslism.

The Gare or Gari belng to the Tribal family called Dir. They trace their ancestry from Dir son of Irir (Irer). The Gare are closely related to the Dir Tribe known as the Gurgura or Madaxwyna Dir of Dire Dawa.

The Gare and Borana are bitter enemies and are not relate d - even though they may speak the same language. The Gare are more closely related to their neighbours the Garrira and they share the same genealogy.

The Gare/Garri, the Gurgura, and Garrira are all Dir and are not Oromo, even though they may be bilingual- speaking both the Oromo and Somali language.
