It would have been useful to have some clarity around the terms ' intellectual' and ' influential'. And the ability to make a first and second choice would assist as well.
Presumably this is about living intellectuals. If it included the recently departed I would recommend Tajudeen Abdul Raheem, foremost Pan Africanist, who died in Nairobi a few years ago.
Could I also suggest Pierre Sane who has been previously head of Amnesty International and has written insightful pieces about the political crisis in Cote D'Ivoire.
