Should the smoking ban be extended?

It's interesting to see the Antismokers finally admitting that their motivation for the bans is indeed simply to socially engineer people into not smoking. The whole secondhand smoke nonsense was a lie to begin with and continues to be so. There has never yet been a scientific study showing any real degree of harm to normal people from the sorts of exposures one would get in any decently ventilated bar or restaurant.

i think looking at the number of closed pubs speaks volumes about the smoking ban. however if limited numbers of smoker friendly pubs were opened the remainder would see a sharp fall off of patrons due to migration. i think this would display the fact that more people smoke than government figures would have us believe, hence such a thing would probably not come into being, shame really.

In response to Yul D. That's fine, they can go to the 4 out of 5 five pubs and bars which would be non-smoking environments. There is no reason why there can't be space for everyone, why everyone can't be accommodated. Let's say that The King's Head, The Queen's Head, The Red Lion and The Golden Fllece are non-smoking pubs whilst The Dragon's Head allows smoking then if you don't smoke and/or don't want to be around smokers then you can go to any of the first 4 pubs and if you're a smoker you can go to the last one. Remember, smoking IS NOT illegal, and as adults with the ability to make decisions there should (in my opinion) be options open to all members of society.

Yes, yes, yes. Many other people who don't smoke also go to bars and pubs, as well as many other public places, both indoors and outdoors.

No, no, no. Enough is enough. We should be looking to go the other way and relax the ban, like in Holland and Hawaii. The government should have no right to tell a private individual in their own property that they cannot do something which is not illegal to do. For the sake of argument let's say that 22% of the adult population of the UK smoke. Roughly 1 in 5 pubs should therefore be smoking-friendly. Fed up with ASH and their rubbish - BUTT out of people's lives and start living your own.

The research is based on 13 (yes thirteen) interviews...That is the sum total of their "evidence" . I mean how preposterous is that? If I go down the pub and find 13 people who think that aliens have infiltrated government are you going to publish my conclusion that all government ministers must undergo a blood test to ensure they are human. Jeez.

Give it a few months and we will be told that there is "irrefutable evidence" that banning smoking in pub gardens will cut smoking rates. And they will quote "studies" aka (a chat with a handful of carefully selected smokers) like this one.

You could at least have mentioned the sample size these "scientists" were basing their conslusions on Metro.

smoking is legal and is a choice is you like so smoke on a night out then you should be allowed to do so so long as it does not affect others the smoking ban a present does this, it was introduced to prevent passive smoking not to stop people from smoking
