Aren't there different schools of thought regarding rolls on gear? I've never played Rift, but I played WoW for 5 years. Experience taught me that those arbitrary rules about eligibility and so forth tend to apply to everyone but the players who insist on such courtesies. Once upon a time in WoW, a rogue was allowed to roll 'need' on a healing staff. Took WoW only 4 years to change that to prevent those abuses. Still, while I don't want to seem flippant or dismissive, since anonymity encourages gamers to think only of themselves, your best bet is to do the same. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Unless you're grouped with friends who actually put others before themselves, the nice guy, regrettably, always finishes last.
