Should Rickey Smiley Stop Talking About "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" On The Radio?

I think it's okay for you to decide to stop talking about "Love and Hip Hop". The show is called "Rickey Smiley Morning Show" which means you have an image to uphold along with everyone else who is by your side. If you feel like "Love and Hip Hop" is trash and you don't want any negative affiliation then I don't blame you for not acknowledging the show any more. True enough you could discuss the cons about the show but the show will still get that attention from your morning show; any news is good news. But true fans will stay tuned whether you discuss "Love and Hip Hop" or not :-)

I truly think its entertaining for me. Like anything else magazines, video games, etc. My question is were is the parenting at. You don't know how to watch or monitor what your children are watching? I have Five children that range from 17-2 and their is no way they are going to watch that show, read my magazines, or even play my video games. I'm just saying.......

Honestly the show weak as hell and just a lil bit funny but its more entertaining hearing y'all talk about it and interview them as long as its once day in the morning because I need a good laugh in the morning and mama dee had me rolling she a g but i would have never watched the show if y'all didn't talk about I hate these fake ass reality shows.

Thank You!!! This mess is beyond ghetto and a disgrace to watch!!

I listened to the show this morning and I totally agree with Rickey. I first would like to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for addressing the chaos with these reality shows. Why is that our young beautiful african american women feel the need to do shows like this or videos in order to reach prosperity. One thing that needs to be recognized is when any african american reach the public's eye ....everyone is watching...so 10 years from now what can the cast of this show say about themselves and those who support them....at some point there has to be a LINE....

I read the rest of the comments and I didn't hear your show this morning. I found this voting site when I was searching for responses to last nights show. After reading the responses I realized that at least we are talking about it and folks are showing disgust with the behaviors. I agree with your decision to no longer promote the show, but I just listened to the interviews and if you want to do something for ratings and positivity - have these people on your show to discuss the show and I mean really discuss the show. Go in hard on them.
One person commented on the 1970 Blackploitation films - there's no comparison. The people were sexual and violent - but also smart and strong. Most important, they weren't trying to pass it off as reality.

  • purple grape - 12 years ago

Hell no Ricky! Let's talk about it! It's entertainment, these people won't inspire our youth, and we have to be confident in That!

I generally watch reality shows just as some mindless entertainment like the "New" SOAPS. My husband walked in and started watching with me and I was embarrassed. He said "it's like watching 'Wild Kingdom'". Love and Hip Hop NY, was scripted and superficial, but nothing like this. Love and Hip Hop ATL - is horrible. There's no self respect - NONE. Scrappy's mom is IGNORANT and it's parents like her contributing to the death rate of our young men!!! Since he acts like he's 15, I started to call CPS on her. Then I had to remind myself that he is a grown man. Scrappy is a IMMATURE. Stevie J - is a SOCIOPATH. All the women on the show are WHORES. Everyone of them are selling themselves short for a dollar. I have so much more respect for Jim Jones and his finace Chrissy for calling out the producers of this show - if this was the kind of drama they were trying to get from them - then hats off to them for walking. Aside from tearing down everyone on the show - you have to keep in mind that these people have children. Do the producers take the innocent children into consideration while exploiting the ignorance of their parents? They talked about having an abortion like they just killed a roach? I very seldom voice an opinion on abortion. I'm not anti-abortion, but when people use it as a form of birth control - it's digusting. Whether the girl was truly pregnant or not - this was a totally irresponsible depiction of how to handle an unplanned pregnancy. She was crying because of the way Stevie J was treating her, but not for life in her (or at least that's how the show was edited). I have no respect for the cast, crew, producers - especially the producers of this show. I thought Basketball Wives was bad - but this this is bottom of the barrel. Nothing about this show is entertaining. Mona Scott (executive producer) - you need JESUS. That's the first time I have ever said that about anyone. Watching this show last night did one good thing for me - it made me want to go get me some religion, because folks are out of control.

This is the most ignorant scripted show executively produced by someone promoting to young women to be famous you sleep with your producer/manager. encouring this new fad "side chic". Men carelessly habing unprotected sex... you cannot compare this to Housewives of Atlanta. Sadly they Will recieve high ratings because America lives foolery

  • Shireese - 12 years ago

that show isn't entertainment at all... its complete buffoonery, we as blacks want to be given opportunities and not stereotyped yet we're ok with allowing these idiots to represent us, u all do realize, that they DO REPRESENT US. people are watching and believe we all act like that, and those are the ones that supposedly have money... so just imagine how the poor ones act, yes? again its all about ignorance..so thank u Ricky for not giving these money grubbers, that sold their dignity for a few bucks... any more attention than they deserve.

  • bankonit - 12 years ago

I agree with Rickey's position on the discontinuance of discussion on Love & Hip Hop/ Atlanta. We as a people have been buffooned for a very long time and in my opinion, this tv show, while designed for entertainment purposes, still contributes to more of the stereotypes and cliches that have been speared at us. Black folks( and I AM black), how much longer do you want to perpetuate the very things which offend us when other races use as the subject of their jokes?

Do you not think that shows like this give them even more arsenal to overshadow and eclipse the good things we do? Now, no one is a saint and we ALL have our situations. I'm just saying, at some time or another, we should be responsible and take a stand or we will keep being the center of these stereotypes.

Even if we exercise our right individually not to watch the show, many others will and may be influenced to behave in that light. I know personally, I would be embarrassed if my family members were exposed that way, wife, mother, children.

  • bankonit - 12 years ago

Ok, we can sum it up like this..... Can you find any positive points to the show to discuss in an open forum? If you are still pondering, then there goes your answer about the show. As Rickey and the new TV show host dude stated, we can name all the characters from these tasteless reality shows but can't even name three U.S. Congressmen more or less our local congressmen.

Do you see something wrong with this? Where's the progress in our community? When or if a microphone were to ever be put in your face, what could you talk about with SUBSTANCE people? If nothing more than who was boning who on love and hip hop or basketball wives, then you ought to be a shame and go climb far under a rock. Tisk Tisk.

I am so glad we won't have to hear about that trashy show anymore! I can't knock anyone's hustle, but it sets such an bad example and unfair representation of our people in general. I get the whole "it's entertainment" aspect, but it's not entertaining, just plain sad. So thank you for taking a stand and love your show!

I don't watch the show because of it's negativity. Some reality shows are truly unacceptable to view. Ricky has his opinion whether the show should be discuss or not.

  • Kay - 12 years ago

I believe that Ricky should continue to talk about Love & Hip Hop . Yes it does have some ignorant moments however what people seem to forget is that it is for entertainment ! If you dont like the show dont watch it , its just that SIMPLE ! There's shows and music that is just as provocative yet they still get played daily , why ? BECAUSE ITS ENTERTAINMENT ! How is it you find Love & Hip Hop to be so distasteful and in the same sense turn around and discuss the and instigate other celebrity drama ( i.e Chris Brown V. Drake ) ? If you are going to eliminate one eliminate them ALL ...

  • Rosalyn - 12 years ago

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who feels this way. I work at a child care and are kids comes to daycare talking about these shows, these shows come on late , so what do that say about are parenting skills?

  • Sonda - 12 years ago

Remove the mic and eliminate the hype!

  • Susan Boyd - 12 years ago

Rickey, much love and respect to you for deciding to take that garbage off your show. I have personally never seen that or any other reality garbage but have heard enough negative things to agree with you that its degrading to women, blacks and it does give Atlanta a bad rep. I support your decision all the way.

  • shaka2102 - 12 years ago

Rickey I so agree with your decision. These shows are getting ridiculous and making us black women and men look desperate and ignorant. How are to expect our youth to act when this is the example put before them; it needs to stop it has to start somewhere. Keep up the good Rickey n cast!!...luv y'all!

  • Cheryl - 12 years ago

Please lets remember this is a TV SHOW!! It is purely for entertainment. It does not define our culture. I would love to know why everyone is so defensive about this. In the 70's when Black Exploitation films came out depicting us as pimps and prostitutes nobody said anything. Maury is still on to this day with the majority of his guests as African Americans wondering who cheated and who is their childs father..but nodody has a petition to stop this. If you truly don't like the true then don't watch it and stop commenting. But to some of us, like myself, I enjoy it only for the entertainment. It does not define me as a Black educated wife and mother.

Everybody loves to know, what's going on with the rich & famous in their lives! But when you see the same thing going on that's happening in your own community, we can cut the tv off and sit on the porch! Times are really changing 2012, everybody should be thinking set example especially the rich and famous because, people can be replaced by turning tv stations or buying others records!!!!!!!

  • Amber - 12 years ago

I feel that the show is a prime example of men taking advantage of women. Me as a black woman, is strong enough to not tolerate the garbage that men bring. I'm not understanding why these women are not "SMART" enough to know that they are being made a fool of. Have respect for yourselves and your morals should count for something. Love yourself before you expect someone else to love you. StevieJ is just plain IGNORANT!! And it's all a front, he is weak himself so that is why is taking advantage for Joseline. I understand that she came from the "strip club", but girl, YOU DON'T NEED HIM TO KEEP YOU OUT!!! Rickey should continue to talk about the show to teach people that it's not right to act or be treated like that. However, I don't think he should have the cast on his show. These producers are giving people what they want, UNNECESSARY drama. I love your show and continue what you are doing!

  • Tatiana Whipple - 12 years ago

I feel the same way Rickey I am so sick of black women feeling they have to settle so low. Basketball wives, Love & hip hop they are not doing nothing to show our young women how to carry themselves. Basketball wives make it seem like women in Miami act that way. Rickey it's alot of women out here that is making a difference I feel you shouldn't have them on your show. I was watching the news and I caught wift of these young ladies the Bridges sister they are so positive and they are also making a difference in the community can you look at this news clip channel 10 local new http://www.local10.com/news/Sisters-found-school-to-help-Homestead-kids/-/1717324/14596642/-/c62mvn/-/index.html

  • Miss Georgia - 12 years ago

Yes please stop making them relevant. It is sad that these individuals are currently representing GA. VH 1 is only concerned with making money and depicting us in a negative way, so please don't waste your time and effort on this show.

  • Destiny - 12 years ago

I think you should continue to talk about Love and Hip Hop. Speak out about the show maybe the producers would put it to an end. This is the worst reality shows that has every came out on VH1. Leave the shows up to Basketball Wives, Real Housewives of Atlanta, and the Original Love and Hip Hop.

  • Rho - 12 years ago

I agree with Minka. However, this show is like a bad accident on the side of the highway. As bad as it is, most folks can't help but to look. We are drawn to drama. It's entertainment!!

  • Djhercurock - 12 years ago

I think its to much negative issues for our youth...its got to be a fairytale..what black woman will take that kind of bull..
    .

  • Rico - 12 years ago

When there is publicity (oxygen) given to any topic, be it negative or positive, it continues to live. Of course producers bank on this. Let it die #DEAD

  • Roxanne - 12 years ago

I say keep shining a light on all the things wrong with the show! But don't interview the cast members who continually set bad examples!

  • Minka - 12 years ago

When you stop talking about them makes them no longer relevant ....
