I think the officer did the right thing obviously we all werent there to say if the turtle was in bad shape or not. But i am sure the officer made the right choice. Who needs a professional to tell them the animal is going to die so lets put it to sleep? The vets charge way to much and it was a wild animal if the cop wouldn't of shot it, it would of became hawk food. I agree with the police officer. I am a huge animal lover but im sure people can tell if a animal isnt going to make it.

I agree that shooting it three times was a bit much. They don't even shoot larger animals that much. They said that the police officer thought it was beyond rehabilitation. How does he know that since he is not trained in that sort of thing. I also agree that maybe it should have been taken to a wildlife rehab center or a vet that deals with that type of animal. Let them make the decision to euthanize it, if necessary.

If his shell was crushed it seems that it would be in pain. But I agree that 3 shots were over kill. The officer had to make a decision and I don't think it was out of cruelty. He is either a bad shot or has a heavy trigger finger. Over kill.

For all of you that think that this was uncalled for, Who was going to cough up the money for the vet and rehab?? I bet that you dont donate to the wildlife center in your area. How about donating money to the local animal hospital to help pay for some of the animals that get hurt at the side of the road. I would have to say that he did the right thing. Im sure that the vet would have to charge someone for the care.

I think that a vet should have been there to deter man what shape it was in cops are lazy and ruthless and the cheif needs to crack down . Its crazy how they have a gun and get to call the shots in bad situations . THAT'S CRAZY.

If it was a child it would be considered murder. Peple and animals live thru alot who are you to act as god and kill some one or something . You are not acting lout of compassions you are a killer.
