My immediate response to this question was — Earth, Gaia, our planetary eco-system. So I chose “nature” from the list. Of course, that’s not exactly the same thing, but it feels close.

I like the concept of understanding as a symbol. Not because of the word but because of Lee's explanation. AMHeidi I'm glad to hear your staying positive through your difficulties! I've been through similar in the last year.
I picked community because for me transcendence occurs most often in a group setting where we come together and it all clicks and we get something great done. That feeling is something I seek actively in my life.

I had to choose other and list it as 'Understanding' This i figure is the human desire to understand our world through critical thought and investigation and it includes (in my mind) the above options of evolution, nature and cosmos. It also covers the desire to learn about folklore and mythology as tools for communication and a method to understand the human psyche. The desire to learn the truth (scientifically and spiritually) about ourselves and the universe, as well as the benefits we gain by doing so, is the thing that transcends me.

I spent ten years as a pagan and then I left it but I am still neo classically oriented, so I really like the theme of humanistic paganism. I am also a massage therapist by trade for almost 15 years and I am in my final semester of undergraduate work for a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a emphasis in Business, concentration in Health, minor in History. I chose the body, evolution and life as the symbols I resonate most with right now. I was unemployed for four years during the downturn and just lost my temporary job this week. So things are stressful but could be worse. I have put on weight during this time and I was diagnosed as being bi polar as well. So Health matters in ways it did not matter before. Life is still valuable and truth still counts for something. I am trying to remind myself that I am evolving in my professionalism as a massage therapist but on many levels, I wanted to move beyond it but to get my degree, I had to pick up the skills that I had and try and make the most out of them.
