BMW, AUDI Mecedes cars are all equipt with electronic fuel management systems that detect "pinging" and adjust for the type of fuel in the tank. What used to be accomplished with changtes to engine timing and other mechanical adjustments are now done automatically by a computer.. (what else is new...) Regular absolutely can be used in these cars. The manufacturers do suggest, though that if you want the highest horse power and performance from these cars they then recommend premium fuel...

Some cars (BMW, Audi, etc) require premium since parameters are set in these cars to take advantage of this more refined fuel.
