I would like to see a robust and water protected jolla with an aluminium frame. Good for indoor and outdoor use.

  • Markus - 11 years ago

I love the slide mechanism of the N97.
Also, the size is just right.
Only the hardware and the software is too old.
I hope that soon a usable smartphone comes out.

  • JoIs033 - 11 years ago

Today most of smartphones have a candy bar form or a slide form but I think the rebirth the old school and loved folding form would be great, that feeling you got when flip out the phone to take a call an the minimalist display for notifications were awesome so I think that a folding form with obviously touch screen like the fujitsu f02d series will be a great hit for old and new smartphone users.

Finally! Someone actually seems to understandthat there is still a market out there for the slide-out querty-keyboard. I have given Nokia feedback on this many times (a Lumia with the slide-out querty-keyboard, please) but they don't seem to be listening. It's not just me either - I have a lot of friends and colleagues at work who wish for the same device.

  • Fuji - 11 years ago

A dual-screen device would be nice. Either slide or clamshell function would look good. Turned in landscape mode the bottom screen could display a keyboard with all the functions you can imagine like; word predictions, cut/copy/paste, 'search with', etc.

Also, with two display screens it will make multitasking more fun and refreshing. I'm not a businessman or am I good with numbers but having a screen displaying business figures and charts with another screen displaying a calculator or email composer would be great and make day to day life on the smartphone more enjoyable.

I have voted for touchscreen and I want jolla to make its smartphones just same as N9 i.e. BUTTONLESS SMARTPHONE. Please do add stuff like Xenon+LED flash, high ppi, notification lights, FM transmiter, Genuine Offline Maps etc. to make it a true smartphone which performs on all grounds of features. Hardware require more attention than software while designing, because any flaw in sofrware can be removed afterwards via updates, but once device's hardware is finalised.. there is no way of removing flaws for enhancing user experience except replacing the device. Speaking of hardware, I think jolla should once look at hardware & designing of devices like N8 & 808 for providing all required stuff to its users for fullfiling hardware requirements.

Like the Keyboard of the E7..
try something... very discreetly... almost impossible to notice! fusion of n900+950+N9
a good screen GORILLA GLASS, double tap feature, between 5 to 4inch display Full-HD 1080p, 2 cameras at least 12megapix and 3.1 front. plus fm rx/tx, IR and a good QUADCORE so all the goodies to run smooth!!

  • Tuija Asta Järvenpää - 11 years ago

Please make it a fair phone

  • eric - 11 years ago

i agree something like the e7 design and size plus adding these features to get all the nokia fans that just don't know what to go to after there current symbian/mego phone such as usb on the go, hdmi out, fm transmitter, and most importantly a camera that can at least match the n8 and a good audio for recording concerts and other events. You altrady have customers from n9 so y not try and get symbian fans also

  • Esa Hamalainen - 11 years ago

Slide-out qwerty is your chance to make it! Make it exactly the way E7 was (the tilt). If a user wants to write anything more than a text message, qwerty is a must. Standing by here.

  • Amit Chalakh - 11 years ago

I would like a phone with "curved display" to assist the swipe gesture just like in N9 with slide out landscape qwerty.
Unreleased Lauta would be a Perfect one.

  • Morph - 11 years ago

I Voted for Landscape Qwerty and Touchscreeen.
My Previous Phones have included the Noki N97 / N97Mini / Xperia X1 etc

However one form factor that was missing (IMO) from the Poll would be the Nokia Communicator Form Factor. :)

  • QWERTY please! - 11 years ago

I´m dying for new hone with psysical qwerty! It´s simply a MUST if you write alot with your phone. I just had to ditch my Desire Z because it just was in so bad condition and didn´t work. Now I´m thinking finding one second hand, because writing with my current phone´s touch screen simply sucks!

Please don´t forget to localize your product. I mean especially in that physical keyboard; Finns, Sweds etc need scandic layout, without that the product is useless, it´s NOT ok if you have to "dig" our special letter under some other letter. Germans need qwertz-layout etc, you get the point.

  • Arschloch - 11 years ago

Companies and many others are craving for a modern phone with physical qwerty keyboard.
For example Nokia could put a 1000€ price to something with windows 8 and it would sell lots.

Jolla has a good chance to take over this market as long as it has office compatibility.
Nyt luu kurkkuun ennenkö nokialta tulee uus kommunikaattori!

  • Harri - 11 years ago

E7 layout with slightly bigger and better screen and more processing power. Why phones don't have infrared anymore? Most of tvs etc still use it and i'd like to control them with my phone. Make infrared two way so you could record any remote. Also fm transmitter is useful if you use your imagination.
So make qwerty and gadgets in slim phone and you've got it.

  • Tuck - 11 years ago

Ditch the QWERTY keyboard, yes its easer to type with but it makes teh phone super fat and heavy, which will not compete well with the Galaxy and Iphone and whatever blackberry comes out with. Sleek, sexy and visually striking is what you should go for! Make something people will ask about. Phones all look so boring and the same these days, this company is so new and fresh why not try going somewhere other companies are afraid of? What do you have to lose? If it fails you still can change the way the company looks to the public. I'm thinking glass or hints of see threw accents around the body of the phone. I actually did a mock-up! http://i.imgur.com/tXzTD.jpg

  • Benjamin James - 11 years ago

Currently v happy with my Symbian belle E7, however would be v excited to have an improved Sailfish UI version with more modern specs and 4.3 inch screen. I am almost tempted by the N9 on ebay anyway it looks so good. I would be torn between a E7 or N9 design!!

  • Kari Korhonen - 11 years ago

Ultimate smartphone? Obvious. The one Tony Stark has in Iron Man. A phone that strikes everyone when they first see it. "what the hell is that" factor would build up with speach sensors that know when you stop a phone call, know what you are looking for from the phone and it is actually compatible with anything. A flashlight is a must. At least 100 lumens. The ultimate secretary.

  • Gaurav Kohli - 11 years ago

The N950 was a perfect device in my opinion!
A QWERTY is a must for typing long messages and emails.
The perfect configuration in my opinion would be:

    4" AMOLED screen (16:9 ratio)
Full touch with slide out landscape QWERTY
    Dual Core processor
    Dedicated GPU
    atleast 1 GB RAM
atleast 16GB internal memory along with hot-swap MicroSD slot
8mp (atleast) autofocus camera(touch to focus would be a nice addition) and 1080p video recording.
    along with the usuals.

    ^Anyone listening? :P

  • tero - 11 years ago

    How about like Nokia Communicators?

  • Bernhard - 11 years ago

I know several people who use a phone with qwertz (germany) but do not find a reasonable replacement for the one they have. All out there are somewhat outdated, have a too small processor and are quite heavy. Because there is no such powerful phone with qwertz they start to switch to touchscreen only. I am quite sure there is a big demand for a slider with hardware keyboard. Especially because there is no competitor out there with such combination of features. Add a qwertz/qwerty to something like a samsung S3 or else and you will sell!
    Currently I use a HTC Desire Z.

  • Evert - Streeff.nl - 11 years ago

It is for a good reason that touchscreen has become the leading interface. Other options may be useful for some, but they will only serve niche markets.

  • Zio Billy - 11 years ago

I don't think detachable keyboard would be very pratical to use..
In my opinion a good phone should be really like N9, i mean with minimalistic design, and with a qwerty like the one in the photo, so with the screen sliding up ( i don't really know how to say it in english xD )
    the screen should not be very huge, the resolution (ppi) is the key, and i really like the esthetic of the curved gorilla glass of N9 and some lumias;
    the hardware should be better than the N9 obviously but not too much, maybe 1.5 GHz Dual core Processor, with a good GPU and something like 1 or 1.5 GB RAM;
The camera i think should be 8 or 12 mpx.. higher is not necessary imo.. fot the frontal camera i really never used it, so i don't know how good should it be, maybe the videocalling with the LTE vould be not to lagging even if the resolution is too big, so i think it could be about 3 or 5 mpx, but i really have no idea xD
So it should support LTE, in some years it should be covering most of the major states in the world
Some GB of internal memory, 8 or 16, but also expandable with mmc
Physical key only for volume, camera, and power on/off
And speaking of the software Sailfish will be awesome =) but please, really.. please put on a GAPLESS MUSIC PLAYER.. no, really.. for me it would make the difference..

(sorry for Language errors =) )

My best smartphone? this are my requisites for buy a phone:
    - A very good camera is important to me, with macro and good video resolution
-A good materials, the screen will not crash when you accidentally hit it.
    -A big screen, 4 ~ 4.5 inches,
-A good S.O. sailfish sounds very good. And open SO not like wp (you need to pay to install your apps in your phone)
-A good processor, only the requeriment for a smooth work with the SO
    - the fisical qwerty? is not need for me.
I think this is all for me

  • Franck - 11 years ago

Don't forget hardware QWERTY is not easily (to say the least) localizable... So if you go that way, you'll have to also provide QUERTZ, AZERTY, unless you're targetting only geeks...
If one really needs a hardware keyboard, why not go for bluetooth ?

  • Daniel Steinberg - 11 years ago

I would like either an all touch screen or preferably a portrait slider with a QWERTY keyboard, like the BB Torch, I would love an E71 like keyboard, tiny keys, but so easy to type on and great layout. I also wasn't impressed with the Sailfish UI, I would have preferred more of an evolution from Harmattan Swipe UI (or even just a licensed version of it) than what I saw, even with some of the cool features. I don't need/want those controls on the multitasking home screen (mind you I don't listen to music or watch many videos on my phone, so it's irrelevant anyways), and why mess with the 3 Harmattan homescreens in the first place? Plus I want more horizontal swiping not vertical swiping (except for the menu, it should scroll vertically as on the N9), I would rather those menus come from the bottom, not the top of the screen, and I like long touches to bring up the menus instead. I honestly was not impressed, my initial reaction to Swipe was "WOW!!!!", but to Sailfish I was not wowed at all, was quite disappointed.

  • Faheem - 11 years ago

Make it larger than 4 inch. My hand swallows up my current phone. Decent camera, and keep the shape boxish, round is old now. The important part is OS. It has to be fast and it has to be smooth. Also hurry up with the announcement or i might be tempted to buy wp8. Good luck

  • Caius - 11 years ago

FM-transmitter and rather thick than wide; to fit in hand and be easily used by one hand. 3,5" screen, no wider is necessary.

  • Francisco - 11 years ago

    Hello,

Being sincere, I love the Nokia N900 and I've voted Slide-out landscape QWERTY with touchscreen. An update of the awesome N900 would be great. HW keyboard is very nice for me, as I consider the N900 or N9/N950 like mini laptops. The N9 is fantastic but I miss the physical keyboard. Also, FM transmitter and Infra red port if possible would be great. 4" or 4,3" screen, decent battery life, we can dream about our perfect phone ^_^

  • De Chevalier - 11 years ago

    like the n900:
    - QWERTZ (not QWERTY :)) keyboard, landscape, with touchscreen
    - stand at the back (very useful!)
    - pen included (also very useful!)

don't want to get a smartphone that has less features than the n900

  • MichMobile - 12 years ago

I WANT N9-01 CONCEPT WITH touchscreen with detachable modular QWERTY

  • Geo - 12 years ago

    Slideout portrait QWERTY with touchscreen?

  • Ben - 12 years ago

Has to be flexible/elastic. This comes to both the display as well as of course the battery. Well, maybe all material needs flex to a certain amount. one of THE most annoying "features" of current smartphones is the fact that displays brake. Fix this and you will receive a lot of WOW with your first device. FIRST FLEXIBLE SMARTPHONE. There are so many benefits with flexibility. Check out where users store their devices and where they put it when they walk, drive, cycle...etc.

  • simon - 12 years ago

oh, I forgot to use the FM transmitter. whether in the car, hotel or in the bar. a radio is everywhere, not my music.

  • simon - 12 years ago

I love my N900. It has everything I need except maybe a little bit less power and battery life. the surface of the n9 I like, not the design.
    important for my smartphone:
    retractable keyboard
    long battery life
    many connection possibilities
    memory expansion
Separate connections for standard usb / power, headphones, video output
share the 3G connection over wifi
because I travel a lot, I find the composite output of the n900 indispensable, since hardly any tv in south america, africa and asia has an HDMI input, but all have composite or scart :-)

  • Joule - 12 years ago

I like the form factor of N9 touchscreen with side slide qwerty key! just like those Nokia developer kit phones

  • bighanded - 12 years ago

Personally, I voted for touchscreen only, would be clearly my preference.

But imho the most important thing is that you guys have a clear target group for Jolla phones, especially if you first produce only one device:
    - If it is business people, a slide-out QWERTY might be a plus.
    - If it is rather general consumers, slide-out QWERTY is a minus.
    - Touchscreen with detachable QWERTY could be a good compromise if it is light but sturdy, very portable, and quickly attachable. Ideal would be a case with integrated QWERTY.

Apart from older business people (sorry guys) and maybe a handful of hackers/programmers nobody really needs that. I used QWERTY many years and would not want it back. I also think, aiming for business is not a good strategy for Jolla. Using meeGo, imho the logical target group would be "smart users" looking for a convenient alternative to WP, iOS, and android. To reach them, consider:
    - no more than 150 g weight
    - no more than 9 mm thick
    - screen not smaller than 4" ( optimum 4,3-4,8) but until the edges of the device
    - high-quality, long-lasting, sustainable materials
    - clean (Finnish) design.

In other words: an updated N9 design.

Besides that, my next smartphone should have
    - 2 gb ram
    - quad-core processor, min. 1,5 GHz
    - 24 bit audio
    - full-range lte
    - long lasting accu (24h +)
    - microSD
    - off-line gps and maps

I believe in you guys, bring it on!

  • mopsless - 12 years ago

    make two variants!
full touch screen like my n9 and QWERTY with touchscreen like n900

  • Alex loo - 12 years ago

Fully touch screen, but I hope to see the touch panel at the side of the phone, so with the touch panel to replace volume rocker and camera button. It may useful during web browsing, we slide the touch panel to scrolling up and down.
And with gaming, it can works as like the portable console the L and R button..

  • markQ - 12 years ago

I would like to model with slide-out PORTRAIT qwerty with touchscreen!

  • Avenger Osiris - 12 years ago

I love the idea of how Windows surface using the cover as keyboard and maybe we can implement that in a phone.
A phone in the form like nokia 3250 where we have twist camera so that we can implement some optical zoom as camera seems like a big deal in smartphone nowadays.

  • Mireiawen - 12 years ago

Other: something in the lines of old E90 communicator where you can cover, and as such protect, the screen with keyboard. Oh, and give a real keyboard, don't skip out half of keys to be behind weird combinations =)

  • Mikko - 12 years ago

Good support for Bluetooth (HID) keyboards would be great. As long as that is in order, touchscreen only is fine. Extra bulk only when needed.

  • jeprox - 12 years ago

as long as there is an fm radio.. :D

  • tetris4 - 12 years ago

For me Nokia N9 was the most attracting design combo of smartphone/OS ever released.

Ideal size would be no bigger than a 4" screen, with the rest of the phone being as close to the screen size as possible.

Whatever you decide on, I hope you guys nail it! =)

  • tired - 12 years ago

4" touch screen, gorilla glass. slide out qwerty keyboard ala lauta concept.
microsd, hdmi. min 8mpx camera, 3mpx front. GPS. magnetometer. radio TX/rx. all the bells and whistles you can think of. Waiting for it breathlessly. in the mean time, looking for a white N9 to keep my black 1 company to tide me over.

  • pm - 12 years ago

    My personal preference size-wise:
No bigger than N9, keep screen size max by minimising borders.
Thinkness: slightly thicker than N9 is no problem.
Slide-out landscape QWERTY with touchscreen is essential.

  • Teemu Korpi - 12 years ago

Other. Something new and great that I couldn't think of.

  • mq - 12 years ago

Modular, but not the one you show there. Main part N9ish and other part slightly bigger with extra battery/usb/keyboard part to be used when neccessary. Depending on how you look at it that would be phone version of asus transformer and that would be great.

  • igorsh - 12 years ago

slide-out keyboard will be good, but please make it like in psion series 5 - full size, without those stupid borders.
and do not reduce number of buttons: 42 buttons from concept photo barely enough for russian+space+enter+arrows+backspace+shift+ctrl.

  • LB - 12 years ago

The Nokia E71 was about the best phone in its era, but now the same form factor in the shape of E6 is crap. And why is that? Because the software underneath just does not work right when combined with both the touchscreen and the keyboard. So whatever you choose, make sure the software really works with it. N900 had good software but it was too thick.

Personally, I'm a woman with smallish hands. I really hate the current trend of 4"+ touch screens where my fingers just are not capable of reaching every part of the screen when used one handed. Additionally, we women don't always have the sturdy pockets to store the bulk of a big phone. And no, I don't have a handbag with me when moving between floors in our office. So smaller is better. Really.

I voted for the detachable QWERTY, it could be a nice compromise between portability and usability. But only if the software works right.

  • neil - 12 years ago

I think that a physical keyboard would make the device too bulky and affect its mechanical integrity, i've never had a slide phone that hasnt suffered from interference scratch marks on the sliding faces. A folding/ sliding device would make it look akward and we want this new device to look at least as good as the N9 right? with input options like Swype its a breeze to input text, it you need a full keyboard then why not give full BT support for BT keyboards? a concept like the ipad where one buys a thin case with an integrated keyboard. Personally I feel its going to be a tough one to beat the N9 the FF camera was there just needed more integration in to the software, and it lacked a camera button. I would like to see a full front screen, edge to edge, but the size of the phone pretty much the same as th n9, That it isnt enormous is one of the joys of the n9, you can get it in a pocket comfortably, it fits the hand, as opposed to the S2 & even more enormous s3

  • Gallaecio - 12 years ago

Chose “Other”. My reasons: I do not care about the form factor that much — no “Candy bar portrait QWERTY with touchscreen” though —, neither do I care that much about the hardware. It’s the software I am interested in!

  • Antero - 12 years ago

Been using slide-out qwerty about 6 years and thought it's must. But changed to 5" touchscreen and happy with it. Ok, using tablet also. So there are not perfect single solution.Modular qwerty integrated to case would work.

  • Niels Mayer - 12 years ago

Make a sturdy folding device with two screens on the interior -- one screen can act as keyboard area, or extra display area for multitasking (e.g. make phone call on one screen, browse using the other).

    Example form factor: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666372579
