Lupe has a valid point about local elections, but certain mandates handed down at the federal level come from the president and congress. Voting for the president isn't enough, we have to get the right people in congress that are going to support bills and laws the president is trying to pass. Please, please, please do not forget to vote in the midterm elections also.
