Which forms do you teach?

    I go over this using little time and luckily, haven't. Yet had to deal with this question so it gives me something useful to consider. I must admit that I avoid used to in the negative and simply use never used to. Cheers!

    Because the pronunciation "used to" sounds like "use-ta" (the d and the t kind of slide together in one sound), it makes it easy to wonder if it's "I didn't used to" instead of "I didn't use to."

    However, teaching "use to" as a verb that follows the normal rules of past simple seems way easier. Way more logical. No matter what conflicting sources may say. And to explain away any ambiguity among students as a "trick of the ear" and about the pronunciation more than anything else...
