People hav forgotten the real reason of Christmas!!! Who can afford all the gift giving ? A nice dinner and family would be nice! Don't forget about midnight mass.

Well if it will help u get on the right track and your kids are grown. I think if not spending money one year on gifts to straighten out ones life is a good thing. but u don't have to give up christmas you can still eat with family and u could always hand make gifts to friends and family if u really want too. or be a scrouge and stay home by your self on christmas no fun in that at all .Just depends on the mood u are in .

I would love that people treat Christmas as a holiday for family and togetherness. Unfortunately, people will always dwell on the gift giving. Of course most logical people don't want to overspend but in reality everyone is expecting something...quantity is what makes the family happy. Ruthie reinforces the stigma of the holiday...Everyone wants to think it's about family but like she said Christmas is ..."Being with family and EXCHANGING GIFTS..." I thought the holiday was about family.
No need to skip Christmas if we can exercise a little sanity in how much we spend. Decide in January (or June) how much you can afford to spend in December. Set aside a little a month. Shop early. Most importantly, remember that the season isn't about spending. Your family will love you just as much (and remember the holiday more fondly) even if you don't spend money like a crazy fool. We cut back a few years ago when I was unemployed and now we limit our spending to between $20 and $50 per person. Homemade gifts are meaningful. We focus on the meaning of Christmas and on family instead of lots of expensive presents. Don't skip Christmas, just remember what Christmas is supposed to be about.

No way!! Christmas is about family!! You don't have to spend a future!! Being with family and exchanging gifts, one time a year!! There's nothing better!!
