I live in a town where any architectual change (including garage doors!) has to be approved by the Architectural Review Committee. Since our city is on a hill and overlooks Santa Monica Bay, every home has to have the same red tile roofs, which are quite expensive but certainly look beautiful when looked at from all the cities below us, winding up to Malibu & beyond. We have old, gorgeous homes similar to the one the Hochsteins want to "renovate," and I can guarantee that in our town a home like this would be preserved, and plans such as theirs would be quickly filed in the trash can!
