Do you think Kiera Wilmot deserves to be charged with a felony for her science experiment?

I believe that kiera is being punish for making one small mistake without teacher supervision. Kiera should only be given detention or something else, but charged her with a felony is ridiculous. Bartow high school and Polk county should make a public apology to kiera and her family and drop all charges against kiera.

i think she shouldn't even be suspended. maybe detention or something like that. she was conducting a science project for heavens sake. this no tolerance is bull. you know when someone is trying to me malicious or not and this was not her intention. so sad and if you read the article its geared towards our community and our children. at least some one is willing to tell the truth.

I think it's ridiculous that they are treating this poor teen like a damn criminal! How dare them! The teachers should be punished for not supervising the students! She did NOTHING WRONG!

I believe they are being extremely harsh. I have mixed feeling about an appropriate punishment. Perhaps a couple of days of suspension would sapience. Charging her with a felony and jeopardizing her future is senseless. Perhaps if she was a troubled child who had previous run ins, I would feel like maybe expulsion would be appropriated. I also believe the school has a certain amount of responsibility, I have two teenagers a 13 yr old and an 18 yr old. Would I ever leave something that may explode in their presence? Hell no! So why were there chemicals left around a class of unsupervised teenager? This should be a conversation about what is acceptable for both sides and both should share the responsibility.

I find it utterly astounding that they are holding a teenager solely accountable for this; while my question is where was the teacher? Shouldn't there have been a teacher present when there are pupils in a classroom?
While I agree she is old enough to know she should not have conducted any experiments without supervision, expulsion is harsh; adult felony charges are beyond reproach.

Based upon the facts given I believe she should be punished for conducting the experiment unsupervised. However, expulsion and felony charge is too extreme. Maybe a two day suspension is more appropriate.
