Should the voting age be lowered to 16?

No No No. Brittany, any fact to back up your statement about 40 year olds knowing less about politics than a 16 year old in school? (I can't believe I'm arguing with someone named Brittany). I agree with many of the comments concerning the payment of taxes. Why do you get a vote on taxes if you don't pay them? How about voting for raising or lowering things than teens can do? Should we ban texting and driving? No way! I love texting and driving. Should it be legal to have 6 friends in your car? Sure, why not? Teens are idiots. When you are old enough to defend you country, you get to vote!

I agree completely with the first comment. A lot of 16 year olds know more about what's going on in politics than a lot of 40 year olds. Not all... However, any 40 year old like myself who pays attention to our kids knows darn well that they learn a whole lot more in school than we did back in the day. A lot of 16 year olds have very educated opinions as to who they would vote for one way or the other if they could. I don't think we should hold them back from having an opinion in the future of the country that is going to belong to them. The kids who only "care about their iPhones & iPods" wouldn't take the time to vote anyway. The only "idiocrocy" comes from the angry people who really think two years make that big of a difference. The fact is, there are probably 80% of adults that shouldn't be voting, but thus is the great US of A:)

I see no upside to allowing 15 and 16 year olds to vote. An overwhelming percentage of them are neither physically, emotionally or intellectually mature enough to make those kind of decisions.

I think our teens should be givin the choice the once that can handle and understand the laws will vote and the once that don't will be like the adults that don't understand and want vote I say lets teach them now and we will save money later trying to get everyone to vote when the time comes ...

If they did this, which I oppose, they should never be allowed to vote on a tax issue. What If you were trying to defeat a school levy, it's bad enough the teachers send all the 18 year olds down to vote for the levy now. They don't pay taxes, so they should definitely not be allowed to vote at 16.

Changing the law really make sense because at the age of 16 kids are in school learning about politics. It would be the best way to get them involved in politics. They know all about elections and how the system works better than most 40 year old adults. At the 18 in America kids lives are changing greatly and they are moving and it really is a shock to their system. Making voting not a priority when they don't live in the same city or state. They won't know where to start and might never start than.

Children at this age do not even keep up with politics. All they are intrested in it what cell phone,IPod,or what clothes are in. Many believe it or not don't even know who the president is. Watch Jay Walking sometimes and college students don't even know the names of the presidents when their picture's are shown, this is really sad.
