There is just too much room for abuse; I would like to know if the majority of Albertans who say they support assisted suicide know any of the facts and statistics on the abuses in countries where it has been legal? Or are they just voting with their emotions?

The daughter of Susan Griffiths was NOT all right with her mothers decision to travel to Switzerland to end her life. Most children do not want to be deprived of caring for their parents at the end of their life, of spending those last few months, days deepening their mutual love before the moment of departure - just as those in love want to prolong their goodbyes. This is natural. It brings comfort and consolation to the dying and to those who love them. We underestimate or do not at all understand, the solace of suffering with love.

If Canada legalizes assisted suicide, elderly persons like me would be life-threatened. So would persons with physical or mental disabilities. This awareness comes from my knowledge of procedures in the Netherlands, especially Belgium. I would add here that persons in situations of domestic violence where there is a power imbalance would be at high risk. How easy to say: "Poor dear s/he was so depressed...just wanted to die so I helped her/him." Others at risk are the homeless and those who cannot speak for themselves. There are no laws, policies, standards or procedures that will make this safe for others at the mercy of a system that would quickly deteriorate.

If we give in to the pressure of legalizing assisted suicide, we will end up in athe same type of place as we are now in with abortion:
anyone, at any time, for any reason...
How can we live with the thought of killing our babies ?
How will we live with the thought of killing our children, our parents, our friends etc ?
ARE WE GOING FORWARD TO NAZISM ???
Is there not a commandment that says : THOU SHALL NOT KILL ?
