I was going to say no .. but when I read that every school could do their own thing but just had to meet the minimum .. that was pretty cool idea :)

No, there should not be caps on teacher salaries. There should be caps on principals' and superintendents' salaries. No principal should be able to make more than their highest paid teacher; no superintendent should be able to make more than their highest paid principal. I haven't seen one six-figure-salaried administrator do one d@$n bit of good in any school district. The same with politicians. They should not be paid any salary. They make millions from lobbyists, from speaking engagements and book deals, and from being placed on company boards.

When are teachers going to get the respect they deserve? Behind any good doctor or lawyer, they first had a great teacher.

Teacher salaries in most public schools are already capped at masters + 30 and 30 years. Raises also become stagnant for most after 10 years, only raising every five years. Meanwhile, in many Ohio districts, teachers have taken pay freezes to avoid further cuts. Teachers have to not only foot the bill for their own continuing education, but also most extra things they want for their classroom. They also deal with more demands, less state support, and kids with higher needs every year. Just because they have summers off, it is not the cushy job some think it is. Cut them some slack. Pay for good teachers and you get good teachers.

My son is studying to be a music teacher. With a cap what will happen to the college education degree's. The cost for this degree will need to be capped too or why bother...they won't be able to live. Why not cap sporting figures, actors government officials and those that make millions...do they really need that much?? Just anther form of control!

We take your child and work with them to become better people and productive citizens. I wonder what kind of person I would be without going to school and having teachers who cared? Capping salaries is another slap in the face along with pay for performance. How is a teacher to control whether a student got breakfast, a good night's sleep, did their homework, read the assignment, or can leave their outside world at the door and be ready to fully concentrate each and every day so they can pass tests written knowing what percentage will fail to begin with? Teaching is not a profession where you plan to become rich, you must love your job because what many forget is that you will be taking classes every summer (at your expense) to keep your certification updated. You will spend your evenings planning lessons and grading papers because your "work day" does not begin and end with a bell. You will attend weekly meetings after the school day to collaborate with your peers ways to improve. How many other careers are there where the employees paycheck depends on what 40+ others score on a test. Times have changed and students no longer can concentrate on learning the why's and how's and dig into their subjects because we are forced to follow the pacing guides and get through so many topics their is not time for full coverage of anything. The bottom line, their is too much testing and too little learning but how can you put a price on your education. How far would you have gotten in your career without the building blocks of education? There should be standards for teachers and help for those who need to improve but by attaching pay to student progress/testing is just setting up our next generation for failure.

No!!! Should YOUR salary be capped?! How can you cap a salary, for anyone, when the cost of living increase is not capped? Absolutely ridiculous. The governemnt needs to stop picking on public workers, our teachers, firefighters, law enforcement, etc., and come up with another solution. Maybe cap themselves!!

Say good-bye to all of the brilliant, wonderful teachers who will all be leaving the school system for better jobs that will pay more and leave our young generations with a deprived education.

Maybe there should be a cap on politicians wages. Sorry, teachers may get three months vacation, but they do put out a lot of their own money and lots of time that most people do not realize.
