Btw, I'm so sorry that my comment came out in one huge paragraph. Not sure why that happened. I did actually provide paragraph breaks when I typed it but it posted as one huge blob.

I'm actually the one who commented o you previous piece and I have to be honest....I'm just as baffled about this one. I'm a huge fan of Wonder Woman and Lois Lane so I want to read your blog? But I'm just not sure I agree with your take on things here.

First of all, your description of what occurred when Superman and Wonder Woman were on Asgard is a really inaccurate view of what actually occurred. And i'm sort of disturbed by this idea that the only way Clark can prove he's "human" and "flawed' is by cheating on his wife. Does that not strike you as being really problematic?

Superman ::was:: tempted. He had been away from his wife for 1,000 years. Then again , time was passing differently for them. It didn't feel like 1,000 years to them. The point of the story was that Clark was tempted because he was very lonely and he did adore Diana as his dear friend and, of course, she's beautiful. But when it got right down to it...he couldn't actually give up hope that he would get home again. in his heart, he believed that his wife might still be alive and he couldn't give up on that. If there was even a chance that he could return to her...he had to hold out for it bc he loved her too much to give up. THAT was the point. And that isn't unrealistic, dude. That's beautiful. That's what MAKES him Superman and the rest of us...well...who we are. Clark not giving up on Lois was a testament not just to how much he loved HER but also to why he's the symbol of hope. Bc he refused to give up.

It's actually really problematic to me to suggest that we need to look at this male hero and say that he should have just had sex with another woman in this situation. Has culture given us such a negative and stereotyical view on male sexuality and gender that we can't actually imagine a man who is BETTER than that? Who is willing to be faithful to the person he loves? It doesn't make me like Superman more to suggest that he should have given up. It makes me like him less.

He didn't tell Lois when he returned home because...what would be the point? Why torture her with the knowledge that he suffered thinking he had lost her forever? What make her worry for no reason?

The problem here is you are listing these Lois LAne and Wonder Woman's characteristics as if it's something you can put on PAPER. And it's not. Yes, Diana is gorgeous. Yes, she's strong. Yes, she's part of the same superhero team. And that all looks great on paper. But love---real love---is rarely if ever based on what looks good on paper. Love is driven by our pheramones and by chemistry. Clark prefers Lois to Wonder woman because he LOVES her. Because you don't have to be the most beautiful woman in the world to be the person that a man loves the most.

Clark Kent prefers Lois Lane (repeatedly) because she can't spell. Because she dives in looking for the truth without the privilege of superpowers. Bc she's messy. Bc she's funny. Bc she's delightfully and utterly HUMAN and flawed and because flaws are beautiful. He loves her because, unlike Diana, Lois has the same shared experience of GROWING UP HUMAN. Clark identifies as one of us. He IS one of us at heart. It's also weird to me that people so often list being part of the same "team" as reasons to support Wonder Woman and Superman and FORGET that Lois and Clark share the same profession too. Clark and Lois both have a passion for truth in journalism and the written word. The power of the press. That's something Clark does NOT share with Diana---he shares that only with Lois and he admires and loves that Lois can fight for justice through her WORDS in a way that doesn't rely on physical power.

It's not actually that hard to understand why Superman loves Lois Lane MORE than he ever will Wonder Woman if you really think about who these people ARE. But you have to get beyond the shallow aspects of it and look deeper.
