I read your articles through RSS, usually, but occasionally, I go to your site. I'm there for the content, not the "look." It's nice to have a site that doesn't load the entire Library of Congress before allowing me to see the article I was looking for.
Bottom line: It doesn't matter. Just don't make the site slower.
