I think he's clearly bi-sexual or confused. It's very confusing & scary at first to like someone who's the same "sex" as you are. I understand because I am in a relationship with a woman & I am a woman. It is a very hard transition and he needs you to be there for him! As a best friend only :) There is nothing wrong with you writer, you are BEAUTIFUL enough, and there's nothing you could have done differently.
Honestly, maybe a part of him liked you more than a friend but he can't help what he is sexually attracted to. Being Bi is most likely his cover up BUT I could completely be wrong about that.
I suggest you mend your broken friendship & help him come out of the closet! The heart will want what the heart wants :) :( Unfortunately this leaves you hurt & saddened & possibly scared to trust a boy again? It won't be your last tears over a boy, so I suggest you be the bigger person & support him in any way and learn from this experience :)
Be more aware now of the red flags or that feeling in your gut telling you to do something or say something that you're not.
You can get through this! Trust me, I'm 27, divorced, I've had 3 fiances, and many boys have hurt me! You will get stronger :) I was lucky to find my soulmate 3 years ago and she just so happened to be the same sex. I could "define" myself, put myself in a category, but truly, it all comes down to simply following your heart hunny :)
