Did any other goal keepers set a world cup record? I think not.
But what ev. We'll beat all of your countries at every other sport in the olympics in a few years like usual.

Howard let 5 shot gets passed him into the net. Its ridiculous to think he could even make the list. He had a world record game, of which 80% of the shots were hit directly to him. One game doesn't make you the best keeper. Also take note that he let in a near post goal against Belgium, which is one of the worst things a keeper can do. US soccer: 1-1-2... And the worst part is that americans are "proud" of such a result.

Just stick to pigskin, baseball, and basketball. You don't seem to know anything about soccer. You guys don't even like the sport really.

Jack Bandy sounds like your typical 'Eurosnob'. No way in his little fantasy-land can an American win a top award at a top World soccer competition. You're an American, not a European......deal with it and move on.

Bottom line, how sure are you that Neuer makes all those saves vs. Belgium like Howard had to? Seriously, the guy is barely challenged in international competition as well as club competition (Bayern Munich). Yet, you are so sure that he is far and away the best keeper of the tournament and of the world. GTFO.

Neuer was head and shoulders above the others in the tournament. He was the only goalkeeper who was an impact player. Tim Howard probably did deserve to be short-listed, as did Ochoa. What is good to see about this World Cup has been a greater recognition in the US in the value of defence. There have been some fantastic 0-0 and 1-0 matches.

@John yes, the award doesn't go to a country, it goes to an outstanding individual so you are correct.

US does not deserve the glove period.

Only 1 comment so I'll go ahead and play devil's advocate and say the American soccer fans are justified along with the international pollsters .
The award is after all called the golden glove award, and as such should be awarded to a goal keeper that actually had to use had to use his gloves. It wasn't just that Howard "warded off a lot of shots vs. Belgium" but that he set a new World cup record. You would think that this would be the primary consideration for such an award, and he would need to screw up the other categories horribly to be dis-considered.
While all the keepers being talked about or considered for this award are all excellent players, I wouldn't bet my life on any one of them maintaining their records under such a barrage of shots on goal. I would gladly give a number of other keepers the golden not getting bored watching their defense play soccer and maintaining enough concentration to keep out the occasional unexpected shot award.
The world cup is simply a wild event... many unexpected things happened this year. Brazil got beat 7-1 and Howard set a new record for saves, certainly worthy of at least consideration. We simply should objectively recognize the facts of what happened.
Anyway, it's all good- one keeper will walk away with a 4 yr award, and Howard will walk away with a new record worth decades.

Just because Tim has one good game doesn't mean that he should have made the list. If you ask someone what their favorite move was this year, they will most likely choose a film that they have seen recently.

I agree with Jack.. Howard is no where hear #1 position.. This article is published in US newspaper/website so we all know who is voting!!

Tim Howard warded off a lot of shots vs. Belgium, but his defense allowed a lot of shots to be made. I don't want to say he wasn't good, or even very good. But, 43%(!) for him - that only reflects who's doing the voting here, and has nothing to do with objectivity or reality. An international poll would have Manuel Neuer (Germany) very clearly at Nr. 1, and very probably Ochoa (Mexico) at Nr. 2. Tim Howard would probably be competing with Navas (Costa Rica) for the Nr. 3 spot.
So - so sorry, dear Americans: at the moment, no one can hold a candle to Neuer - it's not even close.
That Ochoa, Howard & Navas are all held highly in regard, says a lot for CONCACAF.
