In 1619 the Virginia Assembly passed legislation requiring every farmer to grow hemp. Hemp was allowed to be exchanged as legal tender in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland. George Washington & Thomas Jefferson grew cannabis in Virginia!! We have the perfect climate! Do we really want people moving to other states because they can't get the medication they need? or maybe it's because of DuPont's new creation, a synthetic fiber called nylon. that was competition of Hemp?? $$$ guess that's why they call this the 'Commonwealth' getting wealthy by being common¨˜”°~♥ and here's another avid cannabis user http://www.cannabissearch.com/history/christopher-columbus-discoverer-of-the-new-world-avid-cannabis-user/

Marijuana is safer than alcohol im have epilepsy all of the medicine ive been given for it have horrible side affects that lead to death stroke heart attack the government put age restrictions on alcohol and cigarettes how many lives have been ruined or lost from the usage of alcohol and tobacco put that number beside people that have died from marijuana and will clearly see witch is safer marijuana has so many uses weather its medical industrial tax revenue clothing the strongest rope to not legalize it is ignorance pure and simple i hope n pray that the government comes to there senses because it will not go away

As I was watching the comments that people had to say about people getting high and driving is stupid to say because people get in a car that have been drinking and what would you say to that is the fact that this could help many people and give jobs to people in need of them if you just make it legal and it less damaging then drinking and people who think other wise should should go home and check there facts because it's something that god put on the earth for us to use to help people we use plants for other medical reasons why should we not use weed to help people and help the economy

There are so many other helpful things marijuana can do besides smoking it. Renewable resources, oil either to heat your house, run your car, cook with, make clothes, paper, medically speaking dementia patients, Alzheimer, cancer, so many ppl could be helped their lives made better hell possibly slow the progress of these diseases promote new brain growth etc the list goes on an on. Will we ever know? But in the commonwealth what the ppl want doesn't matter per say. Come on Va step up with the times.

Marijuana should be made available as medicine to patients who can use it's proven benefits. In addition, we should stop penalizing folks for doing something that is so commonly done in today's society. We cannot stop this no matter how hard we try and we might as well make tax revenue on it rather than give it to the criminals. Prohibition does not work!! Abraham Lincoln once said "A government cannot legislate a man's desires" and this is a perfect example.

Seriously, the use of heroin and other opiates is becoming more and more frequent by the minute here, especially in high school kids/early college age, and we're worried about MARIJUANA, a plant that has a body count of 0??? Please Virginia, decriminalize marijuana at the very least, and put all the time, money and energy into cracking down on more addictive/deadly stuff!!! Busting a kid for a pot charge is a complete waste of valuable time & energy in my opinion.

I'm a paid Paramedic and as well as a firefighter... I don't think you are up to date in modern medicine. While anything smoked is harmful to ones body, consumed as well as other ways of using this plant has been proven beneficial to human health and well being for thousands of years. Stop living in the Reagan years. He went against his own hand picked advisors and made marijuana out to be the devil people think it is today. Give me one account in human history where one overdosed as a result of any type of marihuana use..... Give me the amount of complications or deaths, yearly, Tylenol causes..... I'm waiting... Pharmaceutical companies cringe at the thought of a single plant, accessible to all, could cure illnesses, ease pain, etc. isn't it wonderful to have people taking medicine that will cause side effects which in return will need further treatment by none other then more prescription meds.... Those meds then do the unthinkable and cause other symptoms that may need treatment. Anything can be addictive and is harmful in excess such as water. Should we also ration water because some people can't rise above ignorance? Or maybe cinnamon. That darn cinnamon challenge can cause SO many health issues we should ban it. Smh. Grow up America! Drugs are man made.

Virginia doesn't have a "voter referendum". No amount of petition signing and public outcry can get an initiative on the ballot, only the legislature can do so. Basically, the voter only has a voice in what the politicians say they can have a voice in.

VA already has a medical marihuana law on the books from the 1970s. Why can't that be resurrected? If I can help in any way, contact me.

Marijuana should not only be decriminalized but allowed for medicinal use in Virginia as well there are a number of doctor prescribed drugs such as lyrica witch has side effects worse than the ailment it is prescribed for. With medical marijuana not only will citizens of Virginia be able to access a better medicine for there ailments with manageable side effects but the state of Virginia will also benefit greatly with tax revenue.Lets hope Virginia wakes up and realizes the many benefits of MARIJUANA

Authoritarian Virginia will, of course, steamroll this bill as usual. No matter what the citizens want, the state will hold on to its cash cow/snitch generator for as long as it can. Until there is a voter referendum to give the citizens a voice, don't count on politicians (especially conservative) to let this see the light of day.

I don't smoke the stuff but I believe it'll help the community instead of harm it. There is a large group of people that do partake in this habit or stress reliever and it would be better done openly than having to hide it from everyone because your afraid you'll lose you job, your home, or your family. It's a natural product and it's definitely safer than alcohol and cigarettes. If anything should be illegal it should be cigarettes. Have you seen how many deaths a year occur because of cigarettes and alcohol.... Now compare that to pot. People need to be more open minded of things if we are to live a happy and healthy life. If pot was so bad why is it used medicinally? I've heard from multiple someone's that they drive safer and are more alert when they drive high than they would if not. It's also opinion, they're like butts which I'm sure you've heard, EVERYONE HAS ONE, doesn't mean it needs to be voiced. That's the end of my rant. Thanks for listening to what the people have to say even if nothing gets done about it. I don't want to read any comments from others so don't reply to mine, I'm not interested in people's negativities. Thanks and have a wonderful life :)
