Prices will not go down if this pipe is built because oil companies do not make significant profit if prices are down. THIS PIPE IS NO GOOD

All North American energy sources should be exploited to make Western Civilization independent of oil from other parts of the world. It is a bold faced lie that pipelines have much environmental impact and progress is not measured by windmills and solar panels. Wisely consume natural gas, liquid petroleum and coal resources and build state of the art nuclear for the real need, electric power generation. We can send people and scientific instruments to outer space (for what reason I cannot pretend to understand), but safe nuclear power generation is beyond our capability. Get real!

Like a parent who gives in to a child constantly wanting to eat candy only to discover it causes cavities later, then dental bills, then life-long dental problems based on this poor habit, America seems to be more concerned with instant gratification with little thought to long-term consequences. The pipeline is not a long-term cure for unemployment. It is a temporary fix. Comparing the short-term benefits of jobs to the long term potential of environmental harm, I vote forget it. Does anyone remember the oil catastrophe in the Gulf? Accidents are bound to happen with this type of enormous project.
Once again politicians are using people to score political points. Will they claim responsibility when the first big leak contaminates the water or poisons the soil? No. They'll place blame elsewhere. Politicians have become nothing more than greedy salesman looking for the biggest profit-even if most customers get lemons. They are concerned with the big fish giving the big bucks and they vote accordingly. Joni will be a good example. Instead of representing the view of the majority of Iowans, she'll support large corporations and the wealthy every time.

Firm what I've read the number of permanent jobs after the pipeline is completed is a small number. The environmental impact has the potential to be enormous. These pipelines have a history of leaking, leaking big. That would not be good for the aquafier, streams, ground water , etc. also, the oil will be exported. It's not for use in Canada or the US. Why should we take the risk.
