All parents need to have their children (black & white)watch the video so they can learn the do's and do nots when interacting with the police. The office told the group of girls SEVERAL times to go home but they chose to disobey an officers order and not leave the first time he told them to. While I agree there was no need for him to use profanity towards them that doesn't justify them mouthing off and not leaving. Ater the officer went to detain her she resisted which is why she got slammed to the ground. She even resisted after she was on the ground. That being said if she was taught at home before this incident that you don't disobey an officers order and had just left the first time he told her to that incident wouldn't have happened. Also I do believe he had the right to pull out his gun. The boys ran up on him and they might not have been armed but they were very close to the side of him where the gun was so of course he was going to react. I can also agree that the officer was very heated a needed better training in diffusing a crowd and I'm sure the racial comments that were made toward the kids probably already had them upset before the police arrived. We as parents need to do a better job in teaching our kids about the real world. People are going to make comments they don't like but we have to teach them not to react to other people's negative and ignorant comments. We have to instill in them that they are above stooping to the other persons level. The government defines me as "black" but I define my race as human. This isn't a "black or white" issue this is a respect for each other as human beings issue that we all need to work on.

Why are we discussing this. This cop, who I am hopeful is not a representation of other officers in his depr, should be charged with assault of a minor. He clearly had NO cause fir his actions toward this young lady. He mistreated her because she was speaking out against an injustice. Why was this cop not ANGRY about the mistreatment these young people suffered before he arrived on scene? There were reports of "adults" using racially derogatory comments toward the teens. Nobody is speaking of that! Put him in jail!!!!

If the teens are handcuffed why did officer pull out his gun they are no longer a threat there handcuffed!

  • Donna Lee - 9 years ago

It is not about race it the teens did not comply with his orders they should have been detained, but he was in the wrong for pulling his gun, the teens were coming at him in an aggressive manner, was it enough for him to justify deadly force by pulling his gun no!! None of the teens had any type of weapon, and he had other options of crowd control such as pepper spray.

People in these comments want to make it a race thing I find that funny a black cop would have done the same thing. And as for minorities look at yourselves. You teach your children to hate and blame people for the injustices you yourself did NOT bear. In stead of telling them they nothing tell your kids they can be anything they dream about. Im a white male with black cousins I see first hand what is thought. And if you really want to break the chains then start teaching respect love acceptance

After seeing the video I have to say he was not justify when pulling the hair and throwing the female on the ground. He was justify in detaining all the children when they failed to comply with hes orders. As for pulling his weapon the answer is yes when you are confronted with a large number of teenagers or adults and they are moving in a hostile way towards you grabbing at you then yes you can defend yourself. Looking at the video the teenager in question was reaching in on the officers right side where his firearm was in its holster. Not knowing if he was reaching in for his weapon the office pulled his firearm out In An afford to protect himself and others. As seen in the video the teenagers were in the wrong. People need to understand this if they were adults everyone would say yes he was in the right but because they are teenagers he was wrong. Teens kill people everyday too they know how to shot a gun and throw a punch. To regain order you may have to use force. And the parents out there need to teach there kids to respect law enforcement officers.

I clearly saw him draw his weapon on the YOUNG MAN who ran up looking like he wanted to fight...the gun wasn't for the little girl. Pay attention!

The bible speaks of times like these and the world will soon witness the father here on earth again. The way the " so called authorities" are handling blacks and other minorities will soon suffer the repercussions of their actions. The seeds of hate that they are sowing will soon blossom and the aftermath for them will be unbearable. Amen!

  • Valerie Hendry - 9 years ago

This is what you have in your town as police officers ruffing up children the young ladies family should sue the shit out the department for hiring out of control cops he wouldn't want that done to his children if he has any to much police brutality going on in this world today but you all are going to answer to God for everything you ever donebelieve that.

  • MissJ - 9 years ago

SUSPENDED!!!He should have been FIRED! What I see is him being just WRONG!! If that were my daughter I would file charges on him & the department. Those are his employers right?? Trust me you would think twice before harassing mine again!! #ANGRYPARENT!!

  • Shirley - 9 years ago

HE SHOULD OF BEEN FIRED!!!!WHAT A DISGRACE!!!!I dont care if you are black or white human beings shouldnt be treated like that and let me tell you if that was my kid or if I was there that would of been the day I died cause I couldnt watch that crap go down like that...No teen or even grown adult would ever respect and police officer with the way they handled things. ANGRY MOTHER....

  • Stacy mathis - 9 years ago

I think wit the things that's going on in the world that was the wrong move to make. Was this racist I think so on the person who called the police part. That's officer was wrong doing the kids like that anyway making all the blacks sit on the ground and not the whites to. Why invite them somewhere if you gone misstreat them.

  • Raye - 9 years ago

There is no justification in this officer action. The young lady was doing what she was told, TO LEAVE. yes she was talking smack leaving but she is a TEENAGER. the officer is an ADULT and paid to have patience and deal with these type of situations. Why are you a officer if you buck under pressure? Take up a job another field like being a librarian.

  • Latoya - 9 years ago

People are saying that he should be fired, but I think he should be arrested. I'm not one to play the race card, but if it was a black officer they would be punished to the highest degree. Like I said I don't play the race card. I just want equality and safety.

  • victoria - 9 years ago

So tell me, Why didn't the white kids speak up and help them.... Hummmm

  • Mrs. KNight - 9 years ago

The young girl had on a bikini. Clearly she was not hiding a weapon. IN my hear I believe it she was alone he and his fellow officers would have sexually assaulted her. Young people have to learn when you see these racist officers, go the other way. don't argue with them and try to reason with them

  • Mildred Harris - 9 years ago

This is ludicrous, he shouldn't just be suspended he should be fired. He was totally out of line . Even myself as a United States soldiers see all the wrong in this. I support law enforcement but this is someone abusing their power. He could have asked them to stand and talk to them, listen to what they were saying. He shouldn't have spoken to them lthe way he spoke. His actions from start to finish were incorrect. And I wouldn't even have listened to him if he spoke to me that way. From the first time he opened his mouth he was cursing at them. This should not be tolerated and I would be suing the city for hiring him and putting my life in jeopardy. I can't stand officers like this, making a bad name for the couple of good officers we have here.

  • Clt - 9 years ago

All black people are fearful of what's supposed to be a safe haven!

  • Arsenio - 9 years ago

The use of deadly force is no justified. READ IT NO ONE HAD A WEAPON FOR THE OFFICER TO RESPOND.

  • Daisy - 9 years ago

It's 2015 and this is still happening.. I'm not surprised at alli just keep making sure my circle is AWARE! #alllivesmatter

  • jeanie - 9 years ago

That's why police give the good police a bad name. It's really hard to Tell which us which. I don't like them for the sake of them being so out of control with the use of their weapons. They need to get a grip on life. You don't give life and they don't have the right to take a life. They (police ) should know God don't like ugly. They will get what is coming to them. Be very carefull. I don't trust none of them.

  • d.Jackson - 9 years ago

For the ones saying yes, I just want to know did you all see the same video everyone else seen. Clearly the young lady was walking away and he went chasing behind her just because she stated her opinion and what she was going to do!!!!! What if it was your child???

  • Jávier Robinson - 9 years ago

He just took the situation to the extreme...all the cursing & grabbing wasn't necessary. The teenagers were wrong but the officer was just as wrong by being disrespectful, pulling out his gun, aggressively touching them & using foul language towards them. Todays generation of officers have to do better & do their JOB!

  • Millie - 9 years ago

I feel this officer has no skills in diffusing community situations. They were called to the scene because some of the kids that lived in the community had apparently invited some of their Black friends to the event. If some of the residents does not want those Black kids in their neighborhood and gets into an altercation with the kids telling them to go back to Section 8 public housing then this is a case of class, ignorance and racism. There were no fights among the teens Their white friends were trying to stick up for them. The people who called the police to make them leave were wrong. This pool was not in their back yard. If the children had all been white there would have been no problems. But white people are on Section 8 too. It wouldn't have made a difference. There are so many other ways this could have been handled but as long as we have grownups forgetting they were once children and how much fun a pool party could be instead of reacting with the fear of " the new N-word" thugs in the neighborhood. Too many were coming and the fear turned to confrontation. Then the police was called. For what? The kids apparently we're doing fine until some ignorant racist folk turned their fun into a horror scene. No one had reported an assault with or without a deadly weapon. No break-ins. No robberies. No vandalism. Just kids having fun. Now what was wrong with that? Just seems to me some of them were the wrong color. That cop needs to be retrained and if caught in a situation like this again he needs to be fired on the spot.

  • Margaret C - 9 years ago

Why white people so scared of color. Dang go into another field. Go sit down and be scared. Hes short and old and SCARED. So he was surrounded,,,,by black children with cameras....so he pulls out a gun. You are and always will be sick scared people.

  • Kia - 9 years ago

The officer was without a doubt out of control. The other officers were not behaving like him. If he would have remained calm he could have gained control of the situation. Yes he entered into a really chaotic situation but he only made things worse by not setting a better example for the teens and be respectful and I bet the situation could have gone a lot differently.

  • Ollie Grant - 9 years ago

He was wrong to pull his GUN out these kids was at a pool party.now your child is dead.really there was no gun there he was not in any danger.thank God no child died this time. But police and citizens are to quick to PULL A GUN why? We send our kids to party, school, camp, and so on we don't be expecting someone to knock on our doors saying our child is dead and you see a VIDEO like this. And you see know sense in what just happen. AGAIN no one died this Time.

  • Mari andrews - 9 years ago

Everyone who voted yes are not right he told those girls to go home and that's what they were doing he got scared when she said she was gonna call her mother and file complaints he wasn't right for what he did to that girl even the other officers tried pulling him back from drawing his gun so you know it was wrong and for all those racists talking to those kids crazy what group of people kids or not do you think wouldn't get mad and wanna fight after making racist comments to them they weren't wrong for going off all the crap that's going on with the police these days is getting out of control someone has to start doing something

  • Shameka - 9 years ago

Everybody on here, I know it's your opinion but y'all sound very stupid by saying that yes he had the right to handle the situation the way he did.. like really?? I know kids these days are worse but NOBODY deserves that treatment and for nothing come on man there children at the end of the day... Just children

  • Angela - 9 years ago

Wanda, if u were so reluctant to say that u voted yes then why did u? There is no justification for the officer's reaction of pulling his gun. He was not in any physical danger from what I saw. Other adults who were not officers were trying to help diffuse the no threatening situation. When is it ever ok to pull a gun on a group of disobedient kids? I guess I need to pull my gun every time my daughter doesn't obey. Nowadays, the "shoot & ask questions later" method is not okay. If that was the case then I need to pull a gun out to diffuse situations similar to this everyday @ work (a school teacher). His chicksh*t reactions were all driven by panic & he did not think anything through before taking actions. The training he received @ the academy was obviously not effective. The parents of these kids should file a lawsuit. IJS

Children these days have no respect for the law...I'm not making it a race issue because it wasn't. So many people were involved and when a officer of the law issues an order we need to comply..I know we are only get part of the story. From what I seen the officer issues an order and the young lady isn't doing what she told she could've done what the guys did without a fight. I seen the officer pull his weapon out when he becomes surrounded. The lookers maybe friend and family of the young lady. Someone could've got seriously hurt u never approach a situation like that even if ur just there, due to the fact weapons get drawn and everyone is already worked up. I think the officer could've talked to the children without cursing at them. I think that's were the kids felt they were being threatened. We need to understand when we are asked to leave or shit down do what is told, look this girl is gonna have to deal with this scare for a while and this officer could possibly loose his job. Due to communicate error and stubbornness.

  • Jamaekh - 9 years ago

No, he was out of control..Cursing at teens. Police are someone that society is supposed to trust and look up to. Grabbing that girls hair, slanging her to the ground while putting his weight on her with both knees is unjustifiable. He has no patience and I believe this officer demonstrated that he does not react well under pressure. If kept as an officer HE WILL BE THE NEXT OFFICER TO SHOT ANOTHER INNOCENT VICTUM.

  • DINAH - 9 years ago

    THE OFFICER WAS
OUT OF CONTROL HE HAD NO BUSINESS DEALING WITH THESE KIDS I SEEN KNOW HARM THE KIDS WAS OFF TO HAVE A POOL PARTY AND HE TOOK CONTROL OVER WHAT THE KIDS HAVING A GOOD TIME HE NEEDS TO BE RETRAIN TO DO HIS JOB BETTER THE KIDS DID NOT HAVE A GUN SO WHY DID HE PUT ALL THESE KIDS LIVES IN DANGER WHAT IF THE GUN HAD WENT OFF WHAT THEM THESE COPS ARE TRIGGER HAPPY THE MAN DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HIS JOB REQUIRES AND YOU DON'T CURSE KIDS OUT FOR NO REASON EVEN IF THEY DID CURSE YOU YOU ARE THE LAW AND YOU SHOW UNJUSTICE FOR THE COUNTRY HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED

  • gina brown - 9 years ago

It reminds me of Selma white people think they are right especially when the get in uniform they r so gongho just cocky he should be fired.

  • Wanda Farrer - 9 years ago

I am reluctant to say but I vote YES,the police was justified in handcuffing the teenager because she would not comply to the law enforcement officer's request to leave the area and go stand across the street. Teens today are used to doing as they please and don't follow the directions of their parents or teachers. They tried to take that same attitude with the officer who tried over and over to diffuse the situation, to no avail. You would think by now everyone would know NOT to buck up at authority! smh.
The gun was a panic move fueled by fear of the number of people around and nobody listening or doing as they were told. It was an overreaction, but can understand it.
