I love and practice yoga, but yoga on a bridge? In Vancouver? Seriously? What's wrong with a patch of grass?
This is a really stupid political stunt. Nice going Premier Clark.

Let's take the emotion out of National Aboriginal Day and International Yoga Day and Father's Day. I mean really - we know the gov't isn't supporting any of it. Don't you see who really controls this city June 21. A billionaire so-called yogi and a fricking gas company. Oh both who contribute handsomely to the Party.
Vancouver is riddled with problems from the top down. Here comes the emotion....disgusting and embarrassing. For the special day that it will be for the above mentioned, sorry this has overshadowed everything.

  • Tracey - 9 years ago

Is there some skullduggery happening with this poll? I voted earlier and a YES vote was ahead by a small margin. judging by the comments there doesn't seem to be a landslide in favour of. Yoga & Gas Co. I don't get the thinking behind this. I echo everyone's thoughts about this decision. Shame on the city and province, shame on Lululemon to support this. And those who want to partake don't be sheep!!!

  • Em - 9 years ago

I have nothing against yoga, and nothing against closing the bridge to do so. HOWEVER, to pour that kind of money into such an event on National Aboriginal Day is like a slap in the face to the Indigenous people of this Country - it's outrageous.

  • Edna - 9 years ago

Canada’s governor general proclaimed the first National Aboriginal Day in 1996. In cooperation with Aboriginal organizations, the Canadian government chose June 21 for National Aboriginal Day because it was on or near the June solstice.

  • krista-lee - 9 years ago

    Christy**

  • krista-lee - 9 years ago

Wow... thank you crusty Clark for proving you're more of an idiot then I thought... one stupid thing after another

  • Edna - 9 years ago

Oh my, Christie Clark should realize that June 21 is National Aboriginal Day, and leave it at that and find another day to have an international day of yoga. Wow I have read a lot of comments from First Nations who say that she basically just said "to hell with the FN" and another thing that day is father's day. jesus I agree with a lot of people's comments, use the park and remember that day is already taken.

  • jones - 9 years ago

This is all about PR as LULU LEMONs main store, head office is right there at the foot of the bridge. What Crusty clarke and lulu lemon isn't telling you is the other side of the back door business deal they are involved in between lulu lemon and the bc gov.

  • Laura - 9 years ago

Funny how we just had a vote about raising taxes to pay for more transit and now our brilliant premier wants to close a major artery to downtown during rush hour traffic to promote Yoga! Practicing yoga should be in a serene calming environment like a beach or a park, NOT in the middle of a concrete bridge. Interesting how these "wonderful" ideas just keep flowing from the BC government (sarcasm included)

  • Alex - 9 years ago

Bad idea... use a park instead.

  • D bray - 9 years ago

Hmmm .... Very odd that 100% of comments are negative, when poll itself shows completely different result! ..anyway, yes, luluwhatever is welcome to sponsor etc whatever they like, but this idea is 100% wrong. The bridge is for traffic ... Anything else has to be of value to everyone in the city, and for short closures only (a parade, or something) . How on earth this dumb idea got shoved into existence is bizarre and deserving further scrutiny.

  • Donna - 9 years ago

This is absolutely ridiculous, I understand that there's already a "yoga" event happening at the Plaza of Nations. (Another beautiful site) What is wrong with this senseless woman that we shamefully call our preimer. The 21st of June is the "Summer Solstice" & celebrated by many urban FN's - what a slap in the face to us.

  • Sharon - 9 years ago

Your an idiot! What the hell! Come on, we all pay taxes, how about you do your job and improve all our lives and savings without the stupid ideas. We share our roads and city but our bridges are becoming personal because you politicians are starting to make us pay for that as well. Grow up and do your job's. Come on Vancouver ...Stick up for yourselves!!! You have a voice and you should consider using it . We already have a public transit skytrain that does not even run into the night and stops before the city even sleeps. We are and can become more united,

    SAL

This is totally wrong premier should check her advisers team giving her wrong advices she should check Indian government status in India . India's current prime minister Modi who declared this day as world Yoga day killed thousands innocents in 2000 . Check on google . On the other side why we have parks and play grounds . I am from India now Canadian citizen . Premier should think again to block trafic for general public .

  • Brad Reddekopp - 9 years ago

Seems like a slap in the face to First Nations people.

  • Whitem@shaw.ca - 9 years ago

This goes against everything Lululemon "says" they stand for. Count me as one loyal customer who will never ever buy your product again. Traitors. Giving it up for the $$$$$. Shame on you all.

  • Layla - 9 years ago

Nauseating. Disgusting. Give your heads a shake. All this is about is promoting Lululemon and if our elected politicians can't grasp this then they're more stupied than I thought. Either that or the're a bunch of liars.

  • Delia - 9 years ago

This is a terrible idea with see-though motives. All this event demonstrates is what A shallow premier we have and that the team that supports her are just as bad. How could this plan have gone through SO many hands and phases of planning and approval and still go forward? Ridiculous.

Obvious solution: use one of the many beautiful beaches we have.

  • Darcy - 9 years ago

Our premier promoting a major oil and gas company (AltaGas:http://www.altagas.ca/) by endorsing and funding this silly event. She's really trying to look good here and win some new fans. Pretty big fail! I'm disappointed that YYoga and Lululemon think this is a good idea and would partner up with an oil and gas company, too. Sheesh.

  • Avtar Gill - 9 years ago

This is not for Yoga only for the promotion of Business of Lulu Lemon especially in India & promotion of Modi's Hinduism Both BC Govt & City of Vancouver sponsor of it. Totaly wrong decision.

  • Tony - 9 years ago

This isn't about yoga. This is about a photo op for the Premier and a big promo event for Lulu Lemon. If it was about yoga they could have held it at Kits Point, on Kits Beach, in Stanley Park, Queen Elizabeth Park or any other beautiful location in the city. Why would anyone want to do yoga on an oil infused asphalt surface?! While she wastes money on this photo op she is cutting funding to the school system. The money the city will waste on this could be put toward helping the homeless. This is blatant, ridiculous political posturing and nothing more than that.

  • Kerry - 9 years ago

I'm a yoga enthusiast but shutting down the Burrard St Bridge and causing motorists & Vancouverites unnecessary stress seems like a very un-zen thing to do.

I believe there are better and more practical locations to choose that would showcase Vancouver in all its lush green splendor. This seems like an unnecessary gimmick that at the end of the day will end up causing Vancouver to be the butt of ridicule and jokes. Is that really what National Yoga Day is all about ? I'd guess it's more about focusing on the health benefits and peaceful tranquility of the activity while surrounded by fresh air and mountain backdrops. Somehow doing yoga on a dirty grimy bridge despite its somewhat picturesque location seems far from a soothing and healthy to me.

  • Shelly - 9 years ago

What is she thinking! I agree with Augustina....she needs to go. Too many scandles with this government. They can not be trusted, throwing our tax $ around for stupid stunts like this.

  • Katie - 9 years ago

Road closures for races and marathons are NOT the same. They are not paid for with taxpayer dollars. Why do you think we pay such high entry fees?! Give your head a shake a think before you support this stupid event.

It's not about "no fun". How about, still HAVE the fun, but somewhere like a park or somewhere else that beautiful Vancouver has to offer?! Not to mention that this event is sponsored by an oil company.

    Good job Crusty.

  • Alex - 9 years ago

Closing the bridge, even on a sunday, for yoga classes is ignorant. Mostly because it's for her own political gains! The idea is great but use a park or better, she can host it on her own property or street! Why not take over BC Place for the day! The major problem is the cost of policing etc! The government is always saying they don't have the money for this and that, but can spend $150000 for this. Clark can pay it out of her own pocket! One of your most major embarrassments to date Christy!

  • Lyn - 9 years ago

We all complain when the Libs blatantly patronize their supporters at the taxpayers' expense put really stupid and money wasting plans into motion, yet the vast majority keeps voting for them. Who's the real "nut bars" here? Wish there was a viable alternative!

  • Michael - 9 years ago

Is she on drugs? National yoga day at the taxpayers of British Columbias expense? This crazy nut bar has to go. To further add to the lunatic notion, close down a major transportation artery in an out of Vancouver on Father's Day,OMFG.

  • Jock - 9 years ago

Krispy - so full of it. Brown and stinks to high heaven - even doused with lemon it's a lulu.

  • Augustina Bunch - 9 years ago

So we the tax payers are paying 150,000$ dollars for Christys buddies who contributed to her liberal party. And yet I live in Delta and they are putting mailboxes on our street instead of having a letter carrier. Nice work Christy. Oh and we are paying for a bridge in Delta that profits the ports. Again way to go Christy. We can see her corporate buddies always benefit. But not the schools or healthcare or the regular working class. Please get rid of her already

  • Basil - 9 years ago

It's time that Christy and her Lululemon partners pay to get some employees voting on this poll!!!

  • Bob - 9 years ago

This is why Vancouver is labelled no fun city! The ppl here are so stuck in there own little world that they forget to breath and relax. Let's have pole next time they close a bridge for a run or parade, marathon, etc etc...maybe its gotta do something with india and that's why the majority r up in arms? Its not yoga on a bridge that have ppl fuming , come on ppl go have fun on a Sunday morning , there is no traffic as most ppl will be sleeping off hangovers from sat night.

  • Marie - 9 years ago

Looks like our Premier is out of touch with the real world! wow! totally stupid... Pretty scary to think it is our Leader thinking like this! Makes you wonder what other stupid implementation has she done? She obviously do not work weekends or commute on that bridge! Selfish idea! and for what?

  • DARKAZALLI - 9 years ago

    325 people are cooked ...

  • Carolyn - 9 years ago

This is Fathers Day for pity sakes. Let's honour our Dad's, husbands instead of doing a stunt like this. There are tons of places in Vancouver to do yoga - what about at a beach somewhere? Silly idea, especially on Fathers Day.

  • christine - 9 years ago

Why don't they hold it under the retarded looking Poodle on a Pole to give it a commemorative welcoming to Vancouver as everyone does the Downward Dog

  • Jay - 9 years ago

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS, IT DOESNT MATTER IF ITS A NATIONAL YOGA DAY. There is plenty of other beautiful places I BC to host a yoga event. On top of the most busiest bridge in Vancouver isn't one of them. Do it at a park, top of mountain or on the beach makes way more sense. All these inconvenience you are going to cause to people isn't the smartest idea. Please check your poll results as 70% vote NO

  • Shauna - 9 years ago

I don't hear people complaining about the countless closures for all the runs/marathons that are hosted in this city. Come on Vancouver, lighten up its on a Sunday morning.... Ooohhhhhhmmmmm and have fun.

  • K Schumacher - 9 years ago

This is a totally ridiculous idea and should be in a park. Not on a bridge or road. Maybe have it on a BC Ferry.

  • Carl - 9 years ago

and what's wrong with Stanley Parc?

  • Barbara - 9 years ago

nutty, nutty, nutty,,,,,,,,what a stupid idea! And this from our Premier? Oy veh,,,,,,,,,,

  • Krista - 9 years ago

That's right, in a city that is soooo congested with traffic, and your priority is to close a BRIDGE to do a yoga class????? What the heck is wrong with a park? That way traffic can flow as ROADS and BRIDGES were intended for, and you cans still have your class. Ridiculous!!
