Should guests have to pay if they RSVP to a wedding and don't show up?

It's not fair to the bride and groom to have to pay for people who don't show up, that being said however when someone gets married they have to pay for the services rendered and whether or not that couple showed up doesn't necessarily mean that they will enjoy or even take part in a dinner the know nothing about. It's almost like possibly charging for uneaten food on the plates of the guests that did show up but didn't care for the taste of the dinner. It's a lose lose situation for the bride and groom which is why most people choose buffets instead of pre made plates so that guests can choose from what they know they will like better. Think smarter while planning and you won't have to deal with the drawbacks of things like this happening.

It is unfortunate that she was not able to attend the wedding, however when you send an RSVP that says that you will attend and they send these numbers to the caterer. The people have to pay for these 2 dinners weather or not she attended, and if there are very many that cannot attend ,it can be quite expensive. There are two sides to this and seems like there could be a better way to handle this situation.
