How about mark richt. The ex Georgia coach. He won more games at Georgia a harder conference than Miami and he still got fired. Mark played at went to Miami.

  • Darby Chilek - 8 years ago

It will be Charlie Strong Teaxs he will be the next head coach for Miami he is not the right fit for Texas. Texas needs a coach the connects with the Texas High School coach and he doesn't do that for them

  • will mathis - 8 years ago

i think lane kiffin would be perfect for this job Miami has talent what they need is a coach they have a qb the r loaded lane would take that persona of the canes and make it come alive he has tudored under nick saban he ready put him in that hot bed of talent and the canes will b back

  • Charlie Strong...not doing to we'll in Texas but those are the old coaches players and Texas fans are not treating him right so bring him back to South Florida at the U and dominate

  • KEVIN CHILDS - 8 years ago

RUBEN CARTER. HAS COACHED AT ALL LEVELS IN COLLEGE AND THE PROS INCLUDING HEAD COACH IN COLLEGE. BRING SOMEONE BACK THAT WILL BE ABLE TO RELATE THE PLAYERS AND INSTILL THE NECESSARY DISCIPLINE TO GET OUR PROGRMA BACK ON TRACK

  • Jim Huff - 8 years ago

I am a Cane from my 1968 and 1968 football seasons at Miami (Junior College Recruit). Another coach mentioned has been Doc Holiday, Marshall's head football coach. He does have an impressive winning record at Marshall and he is a known and respected recruiter of Florida athletes. Marshall currently has many South Florida athletes on its football team.

  • Jon Gruden - 8 years ago

Jon Gruden would be a good fit as well.

  • Len Qualls - 8 years ago

Steve Mariucci would work for me.

  • Joshua Brough - 8 years ago

    Brent Venables

@ PJ. Why do you think it s necessary to be a U alum to have an opinion? Many of the fans that comment here grew up in the (305) and have been avid fans and supporters of this program their entire lives. What makes an alum any more special? If they were, problem solved...right?

  • Pete - 8 years ago

How about Art Kehoe? I'm a little bias because hes my cousin, but he has a long and storied history with Miami and is extremely loyal to the university.

  • Bob - 8 years ago

Bring back Butch to get back the culture of UM football and get recruiting and excitement back, but also bring someone in as an assistant to groom to be the next HC so we aren't starting over in 5-6 years.

  • Wende Ellison - 8 years ago

I'm a die hard Volunteer fan & can't stand the guy for the way he left us(we're making progress after the Derek Dooley debacle) but Lane Kiffin's your guy. Hell of a recruiter and offensive guru. That's who'd I'd at least talk to

  • PJ - 8 years ago

I always wonder how many of the fans that post actually went to the U? We have to get a coach that can recruit and has the ability to keep South Florida talent home like Double J did. Butch can do it as he built the best college team in history and set the record for 1st round draft picks in the NFL draft.

    Charlie Strong.

  • Bennett Bramson - 9 years ago

    Michael Barrow

    1. Chip Kelly; 2. Man Campbell; 3. Brent Venables; 4. Chud; 5. Kirby Smart. Intriguing ideas: Kingsbury, RichRod. (Cristobal is dead to me.)
OC: Dorsey (imagine him working w/ Kaaya)
    DC: somehow convince Randy Shannon?
LBs/Recruiting Coordinator: Ray Lewis (pipe dream)
    DBs: Ed Reed
    Keep: Kehoe, Scott, Swasey

  • Abdul - 9 years ago

Ray Lewis is my pick convince ray and re build this dynasty with hard nosed nasty mean defensive players like The U of old

  • Michael - 9 years ago

Kirby Smart hands down do not over think this hire !

  • Mark Anadio - 9 years ago

Bring back butch he brought this program back from the dead, he can do it again! Some body that can put there foot down or up these players behinds! To many dumb mistakes and penaltys!

  • Flip - 9 years ago

I say go after Mike Leach, should have hired him after Randy Shannon was let go

  • Paul - 9 years ago

Any thoughts on the OC from Cincinnati?

  • Jorge - 9 years ago

Like the idea of non ex alumni to coach, but Dorsey for OC would be something to consider. Butch have too much water under tha bridge to come back, agree Cristobal bail out after Golden hire him, we need consistency in coaching. Other name is our past OC Jedd Finch, he did a great job too.

  • Tim - 9 years ago

Texas Tech head coach Kilff Kinsburry would be a good fit. Texas Tech isn't a place where you can be a consistent playoff contender. He's a good recruiter.

  • captain1 - 9 years ago

J.Johnson will never coach again, Schiano prefers jersey area as home , not in touch with players, they will never rehire B. Davis, Fuente shows real promise but does not have established relationships/ contacts in this area, Chudzinski an interesting option, but I like M. Cristobal, bringing first successful season to FIU, a good performer for UM, 4 years as assistant head coach, offensive line at Alabama under Saban, named recruiter of the year in SEC, with established relationships with local high school coaches, would now be able to put together an outstanding coaching staff that would recruit and develop top talent using hard learned teaching skills and methods.

  • seeUsoon - 9 years ago

Ken Dorsey is an intriguing name to throw in the ring. He has a great football mind and significant experience on the Panther's staff. He would probably fit with the pay limitations everyone seems to know about. Is he mature and self-assured enough? Can he recruit? I feel like we need a defensive lockdown coach as So. FL has a ton of offensive talent to recruit from. Who's the DC at Boston College?

  • Tony - 9 years ago

Charlie Strong. Texas needs to stumble down the stretch for him to get fired, but if he does he would be an absolute grand slam hire.

  • JMart - 9 years ago

I have no idea what the h@!! Craig is talking about! Check your facts, son. Butch resurrected the program and built the 01 Canes, the unquestionable GOAT.
Butch wanted to stay and was happy in South FL, but I don't know one person who wouldn't leave for $5MM a year.
And as the article you allegedly just read clearly stated, Butch was never named in the allegations of academic fraud, contrary to what the media portrayed (HC is always the face of the program).

Just watch The U, Part 2... It explains it all there.

  • C Dundee - 9 years ago

    Pagano

  • Kyle - 9 years ago

Why is Ken Dorsey not in the talks? He IS Hurricane football and he's done wonders in Carolina with Cam Newton.

  • Marty - 9 years ago

Pat narduzzi, wittingham, or nfl guy. All these miami guys would be fun and bring hype but we need an established guy. No more unknowns

  • Clint - 9 years ago

    Jay Gruden

  • Rich - 9 years ago

    Jimmy Johnson

  • Hector - 9 years ago

Ray Lewis can be defense cord jimmy head coach ken Dorsey oc

  • Craig - 9 years ago

Our of this list, Chud would be the best decision! Cristobal, the same guy that BAILED on UM to go Coach Alabama had a losing record at FIU. The winning season he did have was with another Coach's team! Butch Davis, wasn't he the guy that said he was "happy in south florida". But hauled ass shortly after that statement?!! The same Butch that was fired from UNC for academic issues?! Isnt he the same coach that helped the programs demise? C'mon "fans" know your program better than that!! Get real!

  • Eddie - 9 years ago

Chip Kelly Butch Davis Kirby Smart Mark Stoops Steve Spurrier

  • Mindy - 9 years ago

Don't get me wrong, but we need an all new coach, not one that has been here before or an assistant and/or played (look at their record of coaching before deciding). I like Butch, but age please.cLet's go after a fresh face with a fire in them like Butch and JJ had. We need someone like a "Harbaugh"that makes our player play and hold them accountable for the "UM Swag" because they don't know or play like they know it! Make them wrestle so they know how to tackle and bring a player down?

  • Brent - 9 years ago

Lane Kiffin. He's a crazy person, sir, but he can recruit and coach.

  • Uncle jay - 9 years ago

RAY LEWIS They need some fire under them!!!

  • MasterShake - 9 years ago

This poll is rigged. No way do 17% of Miami fans want the fired 27 - 47 FIU coach to succeed Golden. That would be as bad as keeping Golden. Butch, Herman, or Fuente are the only options here that should be realistically considered.

  • Tyson - 9 years ago

    Jim Tressel.

    Scott Satterfield

  • Mackenzie - 9 years ago

    James Coley

  • Jimi - 9 years ago

No Butch Davis. People living in the past. If he is so good how come he is not coaching for 5 years now. Being in fresh new coach. The Memphis coach is a winner . Imagine what he could do with south Florida talent . Chud/ Mario are good too.

  • Hurricane Alum - 9 years ago

I vote for Spurrier -- if Randy Shannon is at the Gators, why not?

  • James - 9 years ago

Bring back Butch! The only one listed with enough clout to keep the BEST local talent here. We still get a 5 star difference maker from time to time and some quality 4 star players like Yearby and Walton, but wouldn't Dalvin Cook, Sony, or Collins been nice? Still HATE that we let Matthew Thomas get away and Rudolph too. Tim Irvin and Scarlett too. We need to get back to being THE option, not a third choice for our top flight recruits and Davis is the only one who can do it right away. Period. Even with his age, the man is smart about the on field product, but even more than that, he LOVES this program! We NEED that kind of passion are the lull of the (non)Golden era. There's a reason why PSU went with Franklin. They knew about Golden`s inability to coach big-time football.

While we're at it, can we get a poll about our next A.D. too? Blake James and his lack of leadership is about the only thing that matches Golden`s ineptness on the football field. Time to revamp The U with legitimate leadership. Go Canes!
