Beaten down and brainwashed, for sure. Once you look at it from the outside in, it's easy to see this.

Not beaten down. Just oblivious, asleep and living in a dreamworld, convinced that they are in the best and freest country in the world. Most of these people are intellectually lazy and more interested in the likes of the Kardashians and the clown show put on by Trump than they are in deep diving into substantive issues which DIRECTLY and often adversely affect them. They will only wake up when it's too late and the damage has already been done.
