Should black actors boycott the Oscars?

Here is the thing; the Grammy's use to not televise any of the hip hop categories . In 1989, the Best Rap Performance category was presented for the first time. Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff had won but they refused to show that segment on TV so Will Smith and the other big acts at the time (Salt N Peppa, LL Cool J, Russell Simmons etal Def Jam also boycotted as well. So maybe Jada is harkening back to that. It still took a while for the Grammy's to show hip hop categories on primetime...but the thing is, after that boycott, Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff were asked to perform the next year on primetime. So ultimately they did get some representation on the live show the next year.

The Grammys aren't the Oscar's though. There seems to be more prestige associated with the Oscars cause society seems to place more value on movie stars than singers and performers. Its going to be harder to convince everyone black or even minorities period (because Benicio Del Toro got overlooked for Sicario just as much as Idris Elba got overlooked for Beast of No Nation) to boycott.

But something has to get done...
