Who 'Won' the GOP Town Hall?

Trump proved that he is not a conservative with his answers to the role of the federal government and importance of NATO. I know everyone says he is not a politician and thats what attracts them to him, but do you understand what soft power means and the relationship with our European allies? If we leave or "restructure" then what will happen? Maybe they start leaning toward Russia... probably not but anything is possible if we don't have good relationships with our allies.

It was laughable when Cruz started things off. Sucked up like a nursing calf to the audience questions then refused to answer the questions without repeated prompting from the biased moderator. If and when Cruz finally did answer it was so convoluted it made little if any sense. Yep thats my choice to be president. if you can't answer the questions while running for office how in the world are we ever going to get any from him if elected. Another Obama in the making. And we thought Hillary was a clone. There is a reason his own party despises him.

I don't understand why people get so heated and disgusted about the idea of Trump as president. He has completely changed the way this election has went, and has surprised everyone. Yes, I think he needs to calm down with all of the immature insults and such. But I do, however, think that he knows how twisted the political game is, and he sees how fake the establishment can be. I am thankful that he strays from that. I think that as president, he would really surround himself with good people and be able to execute great ideas. He's the only candidate, I believe, who has REALLY shown a severe concern about the terrorism going on. His ideas seemed drastic at first, then people started taking it more seriously.

As far as Cruz goes, I don't necessarily disagree with the things he says, for the most part. He still needs over 80% of the remaining delegates and I feel like with the way things have been going so far, it won't happen for him. But who knows, maybe he could pull it through at a contested convention. Either way, he's not my first choice. I have a hard time trusting senators who say that they want to do stuff. But maybe his track record makes him appear more trusting. Let's hope so.

John Kasich is a good man, with good morals, and has been held accountable as governor. However, at this point in the race, it's definitely too late. If they want to keep him on the ballot at contested convention then that's fine, but I doubt people will suddenly side with him in the end. It's a 2 man race.

Trump is not a politician, a polished speaker, or doesn't really care what is "politically" correct and that is why people like him. I like that he is tough and people won't push him around. He is also smart enough to surround himself with the right people to help make up for his lack of experience. The country needs a leader and people will follow him. I just wish he would bring it down a few notches and leave the baby games for the Democrats. The fact that his own party is trying to sabotage their own candidate tells you they are worried. Business people look at costs and contracts....ohh boy the crap will hit the fan and I want a front row seat:)

We all have our opinions about the candidates. One thing that I cannot understand is the heat Trump gets for being born into money. I am from a working class family and admire that Trump did not exactly just sit on his money and do nothing. He took the money given to him and turned it into more money and is very successful. I am so tired of hearing Cruz tell his well rehearsed stories of his father and mother and insults and blames Trump for being born into money...as if it was his fault! Look at the facts...the working class backs Trump and the sad part is that the GOP has proven the people's voice does not count...and they are behind all the recent events trying to make Trump look bad. The GOP has been a disappointment to me as a life long republican voter and I can assure you that if Trump does not get the nominee (he won fair and square... People spoke)...the Republican party will lose many supporters in the future.

Can't help but wonder how many comments are paid political operatives

  • Depgirl - 8 years ago

Cruz did well as he always does. Trump was ludicrous- he really showed how shallow he is. Cruz not only answered every question very well, but gave knowledgeable background info also. Cooper was very antagonistic and interruptive, and I like how Cruz just smirks and asks 'can I finish'. He's the best!

I know a lot of you guys like the fact that trump is not a politician and tells it like it is. While that's nice and all, you are missing three very important points:

    1. Donald trump is more of a liar than Hillary Clinton (he doesn't believe any of what he even says, he's just pandering for votes)
    2. Every poll says Hillary Clinton and Bernie sanders beat him by miles
    3. Not being a politician doesn't automatically mean you can bring needed change, and being a politician doesn't automatically mean you can, as well as the fact that this means you have no experience which you can use to deal with actual issues facing the country that you elected him to fix in the first place rather than your endless personal scandals.

Trump has had a long and successful run for president but it's time we came to our senses, stopped voting the one guy who's NOT a politician for the position of "most powerful POLITICIAN in the world" and voted for John Kasich. I am not a liberal. I am not a campaign ad. I am not a lobbyist or special interest. I am common sense.

I think Trump jumped into the race not expecting to do as well as he has.
I believe that he just wanted to make himself heard, shake things up, so to speak.
Well look what happened, people listened, and agreed with his crystal clear cry to wake up!
To me this explains his unpreparedness in many areas........
He certainly has gotten himself into a bit of a mess, personally, I think he would rather be golfing.
A sticky wicket, all that Dark Money circling around, led by Cruz, the Media slamming him at every turn.
Too bad the Republicans can't say the words Climate Change, this is worse than any other swear word......

  • Sue - 8 years ago

And I was talking about his upbringing. Donald can get that 25mil loan he loaned to himself paid back to him by his campaign ...you really think if he gets the nomination he's going to fund the rest of his campaign himself??? Notice no insults

  • Sue - 8 years ago

I am not an idiot nor did I insult you which tells me all I need to know about you.

  • Sue - 8 years ago

Correction. Goes not hoes. Personally I thought Cruz won the town hall. He is a very thoughtful man. As far as knowing a man by his children...hard to do that as much with very young children...though seeing the kind of father he is as he played with his children during the breaks during the debates. Many laugh at his filibuster on the aca. Fighting against the bills they had to pass so we could see what was on it, as he promised the voters of TX. It seems he was right looking at our now 20 trillion in debt and increased medical costs. Oh and how he and his family are also on obamacare paying the same bills as others.you can see him fight for the AMerican people on the Senate floor by searching on Google. Quite honorable but you have to see for yourself.

  • Sue is idiot - 8 years ago

Sue you are a idiot look at Google again and read it!!! Maybe read all the payoffs he is taking in campaign donations... Trump forever!

  • Sue - 8 years ago

Alex..I agree with you about the posts. Bring a Cruz supporter myself and I have done an ENORMOUS amount of research. Cruz took out loans to go to college. He came from a working class family like mine. Not alot of money. No milion dollar loan. No well to do parents and wasn't sent to military school either. Cruz has repeatedly said the affair talk was garbage. One of the women identified has also come out publicly calling it s lie. As far as Carson hoes even he came out and said he believes Ted did not know anything about what happened in Iowa. Carson also said hey if Trump turns out to not be a good president it's only four years. And he also said Trump was not his first choice. Don't believe me Google it. I heard it from his own words.

  • Ron - 8 years ago

Cruz just lost Wisconsin... Terrible performance just terrible!

  • Eddy - 8 years ago

Trump is not a well rounded politician!!! That's why I love him!!!! Goodbye Washington things gonna change!

  • Matthew - 8 years ago

Debt is the biggest issue period. We've been sold out by the corporate sponsored politicians of both parties. They use tax payer money to buy corporate funding for their campaigns and for their respective party. Trump acts like a nut but I'll take his 10 billion estimated wealth that has been characterized as failure over the 17 trillion is debt that both parties embezzled and characterized as greatness. You can keep your more of the same in Kasich and rattle snake preacher.

  • Ray - 8 years ago

After the treacherous leadership of the last 8 years my dog could do a better job leading this country thank God we have Donald Trump to lead us out of this mess

  • Alex - 8 years ago

Literally every single post I've read about supporting Donald Trump as well as him being honest is what's wrong with America. I don't expect better of the American people to see through a phasode as the one Trump portrays.

  • Jeff - 8 years ago

I'm still undecided voter at this point, though usually am a democratic line voter, but in terms of performance tonight, though unrefined as always, it is at least refreshing to hear it ' straight without hiding' by trump, both the good and the bad - The indirectness Cruz is very typical politician rhetoric that I find rather off putting, especially his indirectness at handling the affair question and hiding behind super PACs to do his dirty work like the Melania picture in Utah. Kasich did fine as always but is status quo and still has me wonder that since it is statistically impossible for him to be the nominee, watching him is a little bit of a waste of time

  • CHRISTINE. - 8 years ago

Trump was so presidential tonight! I cant believe how Cruz didn't answer Anderson's questions over and over again. He kept dancing around all the important questions, why??? He waisted Coopers time!

  • Jacob - 8 years ago

Cruz and Kasich are both seasoned career politicians and that's what's so refreshing about Trump. He doesn't sound slick like the others because he's talking off the cuff like you'd be talking to your family watching a debate. Cruz had no straight answers all night and Kasich couldn't stay seated for more than three minutes and what's with his off putting mannerisms? Trump no matter what you think of him is at least being real with the people. He could've answered a few questions better but that's what you get when you're not following scripts like the others.

  • Nikki - 8 years ago

Cruz is a liar.....he is desperate for presidency. He is not passionate about America.......Go trump! Atleast he says truth.....

  • Kathy - 8 years ago

Cruz scares me, and I actually agree with Trump. This guy lies about everything. I feel for his wife, there is no doubt he has had affairs, or he would have sued the National Inquirer immediately. He sounds so phony. Everything with Cruz is twisted. Lyinted, Perfect label. He has done nothing to move our country forward. NEXT!

  • Paul - 8 years ago

Two major thoughts. They always say look at the quality of ones children to see the quality of the man or women. Trumps kids are extra-ordinary and not by chance. Trumps the real deal folks. He will surround himself with great people. You don't build a multi billion dollar real estate company buy not being flexible. As far as all the rest of the candidates, worthless is an understatement. Look were we are after 20 years (20 trillion in debt) and terrorism every where. You might not like him, but the man is right on with today's problems. GO TRUMP!

  • Connie - 8 years ago

Cruz sounds like a desperate, slimmy, tv minister who dodges questions on IF he has had affairs during his marriage... But, makes sure he skews Trump constantly! Geez! He starts a WAR of trashing Trumps wife for votes and cries foul when TRUMP thumps him! Trump all the way!!!

  • Tom Craddock - 8 years ago

CNN is relentless is their smear campaign against Trump, but Trump always comes out on top!

  • Markus - 8 years ago

Cruz has zero charisma sound like a minister. Kasich a career politician toots his own horn like he is the shell answer man. I live in Ohio and it's not so great. Trump tells it like it is no political correctness. The party made a big deal about signing pledge to support the nominee then have done everything possible to keep trump from winning. How can party expect candidates to show solidarity if the party will not. Time for someone to shake it up. I have never voted for a republican presidential candidate but Hillary is not an option Trump it is.

  • Martha - 8 years ago

Trump is saying that other countries should defend themselves. America can no longer afford it. I Don't believe for a minute those countries don't have Nukes. They just sit back and let us defend them.

  • Tom - 8 years ago

In response to Debbie. I am a Trump fan, but don't think Trump did well tonight. I thought his interview on his plane was better than the Town Hall. He should have answered the three top priorities question better and get better prepared for these town halls. He seem completely unprepared.

  • Debbie - 8 years ago

In response to Tom. I agree, Kasich was fair and reasonable. However, we have seen where fair and reasonable gets us.... nowhere. We need a fighter who is not a seasoned politician, as they always default back to 'politics as usual'. Time for Trump.

  • Tom - 8 years ago

John was the only one who answered the question and was the most reasonable.

  • Debbie - 8 years ago

Call it woman's intuition - but something about Cruz is off. I cannot determine which is more off-putting, his obvious Messiah complex or his authenticity problem. Cruz is just another glib politician, there is no other way of saying it. Trump at least sticks up for himself! I have swayed a little but I am definitely going to be voting Trump.... It is long overdue for things to have a shake-up and he is just the man to do it, otherwise it will be more of the same. Trump is obviously very clever, or he would not have got the Establishment so rattled and been so successful in this campaign. My vote is locked in, Trump.

  • Jocelyn - 8 years ago

I love Donal Trump. He is transparent, unlike Cruz, he is not honest and you can see it all over his face. He hides behind the bible, and that's not right.

  • Jon - 8 years ago

Trump avoided every single question Anderson gave him. And he acts like a 3 year old when anyone comes against him. This is my first election I will be able to vote and sadly I don't think will be able to vote this year if trump is our nominee. Hillary will win in a landslide against Trump, and honestly I'm not sure which one would be worst for this country. Trump said that one of the three primary functions of government is HEALTHCARE! I really don't understand how any true conservative could even consider this man as president.

  • John - 8 years ago

Trump says we should dissolve NATO and give nuclear weapons to Japan and South Korea. And people think he WON the town hall! Really?! This country is in so much trouble! This

  • Rachel - 8 years ago

Somebody needs to tell Cruz his home state is Texas. Florida by the way was won by Trump. Cruz had many questions, he really only answered one. The others he did not understand or just didn't, wan to answer, a true Politician.
