Should juveniles charged with sexting face adult charges/punishment?

What this boils down to is laziness in the home, the school, and the juvenile justice system. The courts have basically turned "sexting" into a status crime, meaning that it's only an offense if a particular type of person commits the offense. Why is this a status crime? Kids should be learning to not engage in sexting from their parents, not the courts or the school. Yes, they're kids, but these pictures were dispersed through privately owned cell phones. I don't know where these pictures were taken, but I can understand the school getting involved if the pictures were taken on school property. At the end of the day the parents need to take responsibility by teaching their kids to have some self respect.
