So far the contract has been fine as compared to other players of his caliber. I disagree with Marty that the new stats do not matter. Now is it wise for a small market team to sign a player to such a contract at his age? Probably not, Baseball seriously needs a firm salary cap or realignment with the haves in one division and have nots in another.

Of course it's a horrible contract! It has evidently precluded the Reds from surrounding, IMO, the best all around Red's hitter in the last 40 years, with other upper tier talent. Nobody threw a hissy fit when Morgan was drawing over 100 walks out of the third hole during the BRM era. Not w/ Rose, Ken Sr. (high OBP guys) in front; & Bench, Perez, Foster behind. I know it's a different era, and we have to deal w/ "Castelini's Cap"...which is why it's a horrible contract. Bitch at Bob & Walt J., Marty, not Votto!! Now, about Bailey's & Phillip's contracts...

Marty is entitled to (and even paid to express) his own opinion. All broadcasters do this, to some degree. With Marty, however, it's the venomous tone that he strikes which is off-putting. It shouldn't be, or come across, as though it's a personal affront, but it often does.

I agree that Marty is way overrated and should be put out to pasture where he can chew his cud. We don't listen to baseball to haggle about who makes what. What about the game?

Marty is 100% right. He's 32. Strike while the iron is hot and get 2-3 decent players/prospects while they can. Then again, if they were to get some good players, they would trade them away for cash and /or "player to be named later". One great player gets you nothing. They should have learned that with Griffey.

Marty "was" a Queen City institution. Sadly, his personal critiques aimed at players is far too personal and nasty anymore. He's tarnishing the storied legacy built over 30+ years.
Marty and Joe were the best thing going. I hope Marty can calm the vitriolic spew this year.
He and Cowboy have a cool Marty and Joe dynamic, but too often Marty's negativity overtakes the broadcast.
