I think it's two things: the (usually awful) way crime is done on TV, with odd flashbacks, and the 'See Inside' function of Amazon. That takes you to the opening section, and that's a prologue if there is one. The nearest thing is the pull quote in a magazine article, intended to sell it to the casual reader.
