Who do you think should be allowed to keep the dog?

We can’t set the precedent that if you take someone’s pet, and keep him or her long enough, she becomes yours. This is very simple.

And why do all these stories say she “adopted” the dog?? She took the dog.

I bet if she was in the other guys position, she would be fighting just as hard to get her dog back.

The dog was chipped...she basically stole it when she didn't get the dog scanned and return it to the owner. She is nuts to say it's "war". It's crazy. People get their dog chipped so it will be returned if found...how can you think it is anything other than that?! She's very disingenuous.

I totally agree with shane gold. this girl(because clearly she is not an adult in mind) should be charged with a crime ( a felony) and made to pay restitution legal fees court costs and community service at the local animal shelter for 5 years AFTER she gets out of prison serving her 5 there. she has little or no respect for herself or others or she could not take a member of someones family and keep him especially after finding out the truth. LOCK HER ASS UP and anybody else that thinks shes right!!!!

Fair is fair and law is law and if the chip says the dog is his then there's no argument. & if ur a good, kind , careing , true and honest person, like the kind to take in a stray dog that is full grown and unknown then u should be all those traits and more wen the dog has actually found its way back into it's true owners arms and if u are this person who has done such a kindness..definitely wouldn't want or accept anything in return.....accept and kno u had ur time that was needed with the pup now his owner needs him back....apologize give the old man his dog back and I'm sure if ur nice to him (as u should be) for be has done nothing to u but want HIS!! Dog back would be more than fair about visitation and or by- weekly sharing would the lady have reacted differently if the true owner had been a cute little giwl who just couldn't sleep and just wanted her little puppy back to protect her at night??? I think so...I think she wouldn't have hesitated to give it back but just cuz he is an old man who had the dog for a longer portion of the dogs life than the woman did! by the way! She feels entitled to the dog just cuz she chose to take care Oic it till true owner was found, I man did she think was no one looking, missing, thinking about this full grown husky not cheap dog lol something not smelling right HA ha....guy should get his dog back obviously whatever bright the pup to the woman also took the pup back to the owner or it wouldn't have happened right don't fight it u will end up happier about the outcome if u go with the natural flow of the universe

There were posters placed of found dog in Canon City when she was found and the original owner admitted he saw them but didn't have the time to call about his dog. The dog was also scanned shortly after she was "adopted" and no chip was found. He bred this dog as a puppy before she was 1 1/2 years old with no regard to her health. He doesn't love this dog. He even swore at a witness in court. When this dog was found she had heart worm and several thousand dollars were paid for her treatment to save her. She was scanned again at this point. She is very loved with her current family and not just another "animal" from where she came from to breed and make money from. She didn't "steal" the dog. Attempts were made to find the original owner. Get all the facts before judging.

Mr. Gehrke, set up a Go Fund Me page to pay for your fees. Many will contribute. You are in the right and within the law. This should be case closed. Shame on this selfish woman who has no concept of ownership or YOUR bond with the dog.

Seems open and shut to me. Dog should have been taken to the vet as a stray, scanned, and returned to Gehrke. Just because Anderson held onto the dog for a couple years means nothing... Can't believe 25% voted for her to keep the dog.

Shane, interesting that you feel you know all of the facts. Did you happen to sit in on the trial?

Based on Ashlee Anderson theory if she found a lost child she could keep it. The rightful owner of the dog has been found, she now illegally has the dog. The dog belongs to Michael Gehrke.

Ashlee Anderson or the family that gave the "found dog" to her made no attempt to see if the dog was chipped. Michael Gehrke's dog should have been scanned for a chip days after he disappeared and returned to him. Both my dogs are chipped to make sure they get returned if they get lost and it upsets me that anyone would take a lost dog as their own and not make ANY attempt to see if it was chipped or locate the owner. While I feel for Ashlee, her lack of responsibility or stupidity or outright theft of a dog should not be rewarded. I hope she not only has to pay court costs, the other guys lawyer fees, I would like to see her charged for theft.
