The acting and storyline are SUPERB! What wonderful characters and their dynamics! Please keep the wonderful addition, Susan Sarandon! She's a SPARK!

Best show! Great character development that grew in complexity with the stories, the tragedies and Ray trying to contain chaos. Mickey is the best and John Voight was always a scene stealer. Really captures the deep emotional scars of the Irish - we wear our pain like badges in our back pockets. Susan Sarandon's character summed it up when she said "Forgive yourself ...'good luck with that ...'" looking forward to Season 6! Great job Showtime!

Baseball players are great if they get a hit one third of the time. Well, Ray Donovan struck out looking this season. Too much artsy fartsy flashback crap, and not enough of the good plot and action that made it interesting in the first place. If next season continues down the same pathetic path, I won't be watching. Ray is far more interesting because he is an intelligent, brooding badass than because he is flawed and damaged.

Worst season ever. Enough with the wife and whiny ass daughter. The jump in the river signified sever writers block. Series should follow Ray into the river. You have taken a great series and ruined it.

I am writing this from the hospital bed. I was only knocked unconscious from the East River jump. I have decided to move to New York and become what I always knew I should have....a priest. The jump from the parking garage was to prove to myself that I am truly divine. That was not a hallunination from Abby....it truly is Abby and she will always be by my side in Season 6. We will have quirky arguments and a lot of ghost puns. Get ready for the all new Ray Donovan!

Glad to know season 6 is inked, I was worried. This season was weird, and not in a good way.The finale tied up the loose ends of a very ugly season. Congrats on the writing: it was brilliance that pulled this mess together. I was torn between A and B for the poll question. I'm done with, "the ghost of Abby" story line. please give it a rest; enough is enough. (I'm getting that "jump the shark" feeling.) I'm NOT a Sarandon fan, but she's growing on me. A powerful, wealthy woman is sexy. The casting is strong. I hope this is not shifting to a NYC based location. If the pedophile priest story line comes back around again, I'll know you have lost it. Looking forward, and crossing my fingers on next season.

PTSD. Perfectly interpreted. Is Ray's suicide another one of his dreams or not?? Series should've waited a while before announcing S6.

Ray Donovan, for my tastes, is distinguished more by the lead characters performance, than by the story line, that meanders all over the place. The development of the characters rests entirely on the often brilliant portrayals by the cast. From the nuanced performances of Schreiber, Malcomson, Marsan and Voight, to the illuminating acting of Moening, Sarandon, Hall and Mihok, as well as the kids...you sense you are watching a real life depiction, rather than a fabricated story line with added on action scenes. At the heart of the show is the volcanic relationship between Ray and Abby, that Schreiber and Malcomson force you to believe. You never doubt their love for each other despite Ray’s self-destructive behavior. And Eddie Marsan’s brilliance presents a story line, one of many, that ties you to his character. While the episodes through five roller coaster seasons, vary wildly in their quality, the acting brings you back week after week. I’m extremely glad that there will be a sixth season. I am looking forward to seeing it.

Couldn't deal with the fact the show didn't just kill Abby's character. It's boring and all this canser stuff is boring other than that the rest was great. This was the worst season for me but u still watched it. Almost stopped. I hope the canser and the Abby thing is over with season 5.

Unique season for sure, however, I thought the timing of the press release for season six diminished the scene of Ray jumping into the river. It took away the OMG factor in my opinion.

Great show. Strong casting. Liev is brilliant and you can see the years of his actions Everytime he is on screen. There is true emotion to this show and the family bonds both shattered and mended are fascinating to watch. RIP Abby. This and The Affair are the best Showtime offers and it's worth the investment. It's the quiet moment in between the drama that truly shine.

Best season so far ! Loved how the memories of Abby kept coming back and how it affected Ray...Everyone has a breaking point, including Ray ! Mickey...oh goodness, what can I say ? Jon Voight is a superb actor, always entertaining, never a dull moment. Absolutely love Terri and Bunche ! Terri is due for some true love in his life...hoping more for him next season. Bring on Season 6...I can’t wait ????

Season 5 finale should be the series finale. It was a good ending to the entire series. The show Jumped The Shark when Abby died.

Enough already with the Abby death, seems out of character for Ray to be lamenting over it so pitifully! Honestly his relationship with Abby throughout the series ranged from cool to icy most of the times with Ray doing what ever served him at the time. His portrayal in this last series was close to a love sick puppy dog, sure he has guilt and remorse as he is just human but let’s get his character back to Ray the fixer!

Oh gosh, i am crying from just reading this interview- You guys have totally gotten to me!

I love how Ray jumps into the East River and the underwater shots are crystal clear, looking like they were shot in a swimming pool. The water clarity in the actual East River is very far from this.

Tired of the Abby apparition as well. Enough. Ray is a great character. But.....

  • allison - 6 years ago

Explosive ending. The best season so far. Ray has been going through the motions of surviving without Abby. He has done what he has needed to do for others for so long he is faced with his own tragedy. The only good thing that grounded him is now gone. Can't wait for next season.
