Should the speed limit in Port Macquarie's CBD be reduced to 40kmh?

Most of the time around the cbd, I can't recall ever being able to get up to 40, let alone reduce the speed limit to 40.
Recupgrading the pedestrian crossing in Hayward St, to me, that crossing area is not in a good place. Motorists come round out of Short St. and all of a sudden there's a crossing. In my humble opinion, the crossing should be further along the street where drivers have a much better view of it.

For better safety for pedestrians have marked crossings within the town especially corner Horton & Clarence sts.

Many pedestrians in Port CBD are visitors and the area is definitely not pedestrian friendly. There are too few marked crossings and centre parked vehicles make it difficult for both drivers and pedestrians to see each other. At some intersections, (eg. Horton and Short on north west corner) pedestrians are required to cross around the corner but must weave between stopped traffic and parked cars to cross.
Major intersections such as Horton and William could be made an all directions pedestrian crossing to assist people flow.
I am fully supportive of a 40kmh zone in the area by Gordon Street, Kooloobung Creek, Hastings River and Murray Street.
