My question is when did we stop teaching age appropriate health around substance abuse? I learned of the harms/dangers/effects of alcohol, smoking, and drugs throughout K-12 in health classes. What we need is to get back to a public education system that equips citizens, a move beyond hyper focus on science-math to the broader holistic dynamic of yesteryear that included language arts, secondary language (french, but open to others), fine arts, liberal arts, social studies, health and physical education on a regular basis with the educators equipped for subject matters. A more belonging education system in Alberta would also aid in creating belonging for students, and encourage creativity, learning and discovery of self which aid in lowering addiction rates, and create a healthier mental health.
