Really disappointed to come to Vancouver for vacation and not be able to get around quickly, easily and inexpensively. Everywhere we have been we’ve used Uber and had only positive experiences. Really important for visitors to be able to get around safely and confidently. Now I have to worry about how I will be getting home after dinner.
Just came out from dinner and have now waited 25 minutes for a cab. This wouldn’t have happened with Uber.
15 minutes later. Still waiting on a cab.
What’s with this city? Does anyone give a damn about tourism? 45 minutes and no cab?
Come on! If a tourist is having this much difficulty in getting somewhere, how do locals who don’t want to drink and drive do it?

I vote against having Uber and Lyft, both US based companies, taking 20% of the transportation revenue out of the country. Instead, I vote for a BC based technology offering a system called Local Ride Network, by a Vancouver Island company called Oye.One, that would give both taxis and app-based drivers the opportunity to work on the same platform. It's a simple solution to a complex problem. It works, it's free and it's ready to go right now.

Absolutely outrageous that a city like Vancouver does NOT have Uber or Lyft. It will be good for all the parties involved but the only reason why it's not being allowed is because of few people who are profiting from the taxi cab industry. It's ridiculous

Ride-sharing has the capability to reduce congestion and pollution, allow flexible work for people who own cars, and resolve the horrible taxi industry monopoly, all things that the NDP must be against.

Replying to Gordon hundle....
This NDP government is taking no stand against Uber -they are just
delaying the inevitable. And annoying 3/4 of the tax paying citizens
who want to see positive action on this file sooner rather than later.

It is about time some body took a stand against digital slavery.pollution and added congestion. In Vancouver most cab drivers are owner drivers.companies don't own the cabs .profit goes to people who live and provide service in this expensive city not to foreign corporation.

Government of BC .. you are such a shame.. we are the only city here in North Americs who does not have Uber , its more convenient and cheaper!!! You are catering those rich taxi companies!! You are playing politics !! Shame on you!! How about the needs of British Columbians!!! Think!!!

BIG Disappointment from Gov. of BC!!! I was thinking that Government for the People and should not forget its by the people. NDP should know the fact their resident has so much burden on their shoulder. Most of the people can't afford cabbing simply. Absolutely, our public transport is not great either. Should allow more option to the people and let them decide what they wanna prefer and according to their budget. People have no reliable transportation during day time then forget about NIGHT time. Those politician should uses buses and wait for cabs to understand what BC resident go through even though it is a part of Canada where ride sharing is available in major cities and provinces. SHAME ON NDP for DIRTY POLITICS.

This delay is deplorable. Enough of the monopolies in BC, time to get out of the dark ages. I've had many friends stranded late at night, in tears not being able to get home safely within Vancouver proper. Others won't go out knowing the trouble they will endure.

We used Uber in Perth Australia and loved it, it was fast, clean and very reasonable. It’s a crime that we are being held hostage by the taxi lobby. I would rather walk than take a cab in this city.

Whoever made the decision to 'delay' needs to think again.
British Columbians want choices and we want them now!
The NDP government just seems to be stalling indefinitely on this file.
Looks as if they are trying to keep a certain group of ethnic voters happy.
Disappointing.......

Technology has displaced jobs in every occupation why are taxi companies special? Obviously they are a special interest group that has the governments ear, apparently their not listening to the voters.

When you have a former president of the BC NDP representing the Taxi lobby.
Why would you believe the government
Is listening to what the people want.

Truly a disgusting decision by the Provincial government. At this point I would be surprised if they followed through with their promise to bring ride sharing to Canada at all. They had an opportunity here to significantly cut down on impaired driving accidents and deaths immediately, yet they chose instead to appeal to a section of swing voters.

I agree with the comment about Lyft - it’s not just Uber that we’re losing out on. More sad, though, is that the government isn’t even trying to hide that they’re as dirty as the last group. What are we supposed to do?
Brad - 6 years ago
After several ripoffs and attempted ripoffs by taxis I have no sympathy for them. I was however quite satisfied with my Uber rides in Dominican Republic and hope they will be in BC soon.

Taxis have a lisence to gouge, protect it at ALL cost
More upset about Lyft. They have a great track record with women's equality. Fourteen of Lyft's top 30 executives are female

Oh look the NDP lining their pockets for the next election trying to get in the good graces of another union - can we recall elected officials now when it’s proven they are incompetent to even do the simplest task? I nominate the minister of transportation! She’s as useless as ejection seats on a helicopter!
