I’m usually a fan of the Naracoorte Herald, although tonight they’ve really upset me. Most people in Naracoorte would know the high school had their ‘First Class Event’ aka year 11/12 formal, last Friday night. Journalist/s from the Herald took photos of all the beautiful attendants and have now created a poll to vote for “your favourite couple”. I am extremely disappointed! In the times of social media, self confidence is rapidly deteriorating in all genders. Voting on your favourite couple can not help the self esteem of young adults who already feel the pressure from their peers and celebrities they follow on all different forms of social media. Having a public voting contest on people who are still classified as children is disgusting! Have we not seen the consequences of social media being used negatively already, or do we need to effect the mental health of more teens to get the picture?
