I love Luna first and foremost because of what the fandom has done with her. She was best Princess before season 2 even started. From a mature Luna troubled by her past to a lazy Gamer Luna to tortured "I shouldn't be forgiven/alive" Luna to cute widdle Woona to blew-up-the-kitchen-trying-to-use-a-toaster Luna, the fandom went mad with her like with no other character since. The raw creativity directed towards and inspired by one single character is simply astounding. There are other things I like about her, including her personality and her connection to the night and her mentor role towards the CMC, but what the community has done with Luna is what makes her Best Princess in my book.

I like both princess as equal but I always relate the people love Luna out of pity rather than because she is a great character, since most of the comics and animations that the fans made are showing how sad and ignored Luna was from her how she was treated from her ponies. Honestly I love her too but the fact that she is not my favorite princess is when the fandom deliberately hate Celestia when this matter come to light as if she had planned her banishment from the beginning sue to some superficial thought of Luna being more powerful than Celestia and whatnot.
Thank goodness I prefer Twilight as best princess.

I put Other because for me it was a process of elimination when I had her become my favorite princess.
Originally I had Luna and Celestia equal to each other, but that didn't last long. In the first episode it states that Luna felt nopony embraced her beautiful night, which would hurt when you're doing your best for the sake of those ponies. This feeling of neglect would also come from Celestia, who probably never bothered to try and comfort Luna until it was too late and she became Nightmare Moon. That put Celestia down, but left Luna at a still level.
The second thing that changed where they stood in my mind was Luna Eclipsed. I know what it's like to not fit in and that's exactly what was happening to Luna. I have a lot of respect for her for sticking around through an entire event that had to do with scaring away something she used to be and I feel sorry for her for the difficulty of fitting into a time and place she wasn't used to as well as having ponies treat her like a villain. That rose Luna up on my view of princesses.
For Princess Cadance who came in at the end of Season 2, I didn't care much for her right off the bat. I felt she should have been there sooner to get a better standing, but she wasn't, so she's low on the princess love, but not as low as Celestia for the next reason.
Throughout the series, Celestia has stated that Twilight is her "most trusted student." However, after Twilight confronts the fake Cadance, Celestia completely ignores the fact that she trusts Twilight and states how disappointed she is in her most trusted student, Twilight. Then at the end, we see no apology from Celestia for doubting her student as well. That really brought things down for Celestia in my mind and she's been my least favorite princess since.
Now, for Twilight, I gotta say that I didn't know how to feel at the beginning of princessdom, so I put her at the level I started Luna and Celestia at, and it's stayed relatively the same since.
With all that being said, my favorite to least favorite princess list is this:

Twilight
Cadance
Celestia

Why do I love Luna? I guess I'm a sucker for woobie and emotional vulnerability. Poor girl was mentally torturing herself for years out of guilt, and after scaring Fluttershy and the citizens of Fluttershy and walking away sadly with her head down, I never wanted to give a mare a hug and let her cry into my shoulder and whisper in her ear that I love her and her night more.
